We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Locketz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie, why did you pursue a creative career?
I feel the most like myself when I’m creating. I’m lucky enough to have found a field of work that allows me to be artistic and creative every day. I always wanted to pursue a career in the arts and actually started my formal education as a dancer. I’ve now landed in a career that at it’s core, highlights performance, which feels wonderfully full circle.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love working with people. Creating, especially with others, feels so fulfilling – professionally and personally. A career in the arts always felt more like a fantasy then something attainable. I then found a love of food and nutrition and started on a career path to become a registered dietitian and chef. I now work with food and kitchen brands to bring their items to life – both in print and in video – and also weekly, on live television. It’s been a dream. I have blended my passions of performance, cooking, nutrition and food into a career I love. But it’s taken some time! Something I lean into is zooming out to look at the big picture, especially when things change. My work has changed in a thousand tiny ways over the past decade, but my career has remained on a path that feels so personal to me. It’s become tailored to my strengths. That’s been one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned – staying true to your strengths and focusing on your passions and building your career with that joy at the foundation.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I just moved here in July so I still feel like a visitor! But I can say I’ve already found a few favorites. The Bindery is a dreamy spot for coffee and weekend brunch, Toro for ceviche and margaritas and Tokyo Premium Bakery for a warm sugar twist donut right when they open at 6am. I also joined an acting class the week I moved here and have realized how much Denver has to offer for people interested in acting and theater — that community is exceptional!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband has always been my biggest support and has walked through every single idea and iteration in my career. He’s helped me shape my goals when my dreams were massive and shapeless. I have always been a big picture thinker and he has brought the small steps perspective that is critical for success.
