We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Worobel, MA, LPC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
One of the main motivations for starting my practice was due to my strong belief in work life balance. As soon as I got my first full time job, I recognized it was not going to work well for me to only have two weeks of vacation a year, do the same task for 40 hours a week, and work at times set by someone else. Starting my private practice has enabled me to set the hours that work best for my sleep schedule, enjoy a true work/life balance, and take time to enjoy life and explore the world now instead of waiting for retirement. It’s also allowed me to be more creative in what I define as work and allows me to utilize a variety of my skills instead of doing the same task repetitively. Making the transition to self employment has been the most instrumental part in improving my life satisfaction and enjoyment.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My therapy practice, Natalie Worobel Counseling, empowers individuals and families struggling with digital media overuse and those seeking to gain greater agency in their lives. Founded in 2022, my Denver-based practice offers personalized therapy sessions focused on reclaiming healthy tech habits and achieving personal goals. As an expert in the digital media overuse/addition field, I provide support to those who overuse/are addicted to gaming, porn, social media, online shopping, gambling, and information/entertainment. I also love helping people become more empowered, actualize their goals, and improve their life fulfillment and satisfaction. This work takes a number of different forms including helping people improve their relationship and communication skills, teaching ways to become more assertive, helping people understand themselves more, and working on prioritize the things that make their lives more meaningful and authentic.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In addition to running my private practice, I also run an airbnb in Denver and enjoy sharing my favorite Denver-based recommendations with guests. I love that working for myself has enabled me to develop multiple income sources while maintaining a great work/life balance. I would encourage visitors to attend a First Friday Art walk in Santa Fe’s art district, stroll through the Botanic Gardens, and make sure to check out Meow Wolf. If they wanted a day to relax, I would encourage a trip to the Beer Spa or visit the caves at Indian Hotsprings. On a nice afternoon, I would encourage grabbing a beer at Our Mutual Friend (OMF) while taking a stroll down RiNo’s Art District and having a picnic day at one of the amazing park (City Park, Confluence Park, Wash Park, etc.) As for food, I would encourage one of the many great options at The Source Hotel: Tamaki Den for sushi, Reunion Bread for baked good, and The Woods rooftop for a killer view of the city and a cocktail. To end the night, I would encourage them to check out Beacon for a drink around the fire place.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was interested in starting my own business for years before it became a reality. One of the main reasons I was able to actualize this dream was because of the support and encouragement I received from my friends Destiny and Anthony, who co-own a business together. They helped me realize that it wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be to start a business and helped me gain the confidence to understand that I could do it too! Anthony helped me set up my PLLC and de-mystified the steps needed to start a business, while Destiny helped me design and create my website. Without their help, I’m not sure this would have become a reality or it would have taken a lot longer to get there. I find that I have taken on a similar role and am now the one helping and encouraging other therapists, friends, and clients to actualize their entrepreneurial dreams. I believe owning your own business has the potential to help so many people love their work again, live a more balanced life and improve their life satisfaction.
