We had the good fortune of connecting with Natasha Ascevich and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natasha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business was motivated by a blend of personal values and professional goals. Since a young age, I’ve sought independence to make my own decisions and explore creative ideas without limitations. Specifically, the pursuit of financial independence, opportunities for creative expression, and achieving a balanced work-life dynamic were the primary motivations that inspired me to begin the journey of entrepreneurship.

The desire for a better balance between work and personal life was the ultimate driving force that pushed me to take the leap about 6 years ago. My experience in traditional jobs highlighted the importance of flexibility, something that was lacking, particularly as a parent. My ultimate goal was, and still is, to create a lifestyle that allows me to pursue my career ambitions while prioritizing time with my family.

In essence, starting a business is about creativity, determination, and making a positive impact. It’s about building something meaningful that resonates with my values and enriches the lives of others.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Floret + Co., is a full-service, Residential Interior Design Firm, that creates efficient, happy spaces. We specialize in designing spaces that prioritize comfort and harmony, guided by the design philosophy, form follows function. Our services are provided through ongoing communication and collaboration to ensure the client’s design goals are met.

I decided to officially create Floret + Co. in January of 2020. I started teaching at the Heritage School of Interior Design in February of 2020, to maintain a part-time career while I grew my business. We all know what happened in March of 2020. Despite a whole new set of challenges presented by the pandemic, Floret + Co. continued to grow.

Since launching in 2020, Floret + Co. has grown mainly through referrals from satisfied clients, and through industry partners. Building and maintaining relationships in any business is essential for continued growth and long-term success.

The long-term goals for Floret + Co. are to continue growing in the Residential Interior Design market and focus on creating custom design solutions that promote efficiency and harmony.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Denver offers a wealth of attractions that are constantly evolving. Here are a few of my favorite places and activities: The Stanley Marketplace is perfect for a variety of culinary experiences and is always a hit with kids and families. Union Station is another favorite spot where you can feel like a tourist in your own city. With its unique design, diverse food options, and great people-watching, it’s an inspiring place to visit. Being located in Central Park provides families with kids plenty of summer activities. From outdoor concerts and farmers’ markets to outdoor films, there’s always something to do and there is a strong sense of community. For a hot springs getaway that is close to the city, Manitou Hot Springs is worth the short drive for a relaxing and rejuvenating afternoon.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My diverse background, shaped by both my family and educational journey, has been integral to my success. I credit my parents, siblings, relatives, and a particular professor for my achievements and motivation. It wasn’t until my mid-twenties that I realized the variety of creatives, artists, and entrepreneurs in my lineage—among them carpenters, artists, actors, dancers, hair stylists, massage therapists, contractors, and painters. This familial entrepreneurial spirit strengthened my ambition and provided the encouragement I needed to pursue my own business.

Prior to earning a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management from the Whittemore School of Business and Economics at the University of New Hampshire. One professor, in particular, left a lasting impression on me through his teaching style and ability to inspire. Reflecting back on this, one of the pivotal moments was encountering Stephen Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” which started my journey towards self-awareness, success, and entrepreneurship.
