We had the good fortune of connecting with Nate Shear and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nate, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Michael and I grew up on the same street from the time we were in elementary school. Ever since then, we have been creating outdoor games, business ideas, and all sorts of creative projects. We both enjoy building ideas from nothing into something tangible. During a winter break in college, we challenged ourselves to create a business in a single day. This was around the time that TikTok was exploding in popularity, so we decided to create video content with footage from our past road trips. At this point, we had traveled to numerous states and national parks all across the US, so it was a perfect fit. Our goal was to get to a point where we could continue our road trip adventures, but somehow get paid to do it. It took us a few months to get traction, but then our account took off!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We run a social media account focused on road trips, national parks, and travel tips. A lot of our content revolves around montages of video clips that we film on our trips including voiceovers where we break down tips or facts that we personally would find fascinating. We’ve been posting for over three years now and have tested all sorts of video tactics and strategies to make engaging content that our community finds a strong interest in. One of the most effective methods that we’ve found for making enjoyable content is simply asking our community and having genuine conversations with them. This engagement and authenticity is why brands and organizations have loved working with us!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To preface, I have a bias for hiking and outdoor adventure. So, if a friend of mine was visiting Denver, I would take them through Golden, CO to stop by bonfire burritos on our way out to the mountains. If it was summer time, then we’d head towards one of the closer and “easier” 14ers to hike up to a summit (Bierstadt, Grays, Torreys, etc.). Then, I would take them down through Leadville/Twin Lakes. We would make a stop at High Mountain Pies and then paddle board out on Twin Lakes. If we had enough time, I’d take them sandboarding down at Great Sand Dunes National Park before looping back up to Denver through Colorado Springs.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would not have had our success without the inspiration for travel given to us from our parents. Growing up, both Michael and I had traveled to many different states with our own families. We got a taste for what road trips were and how many new places are out there to explore. Once, we had our driver’s licenses, it was only a matter of time before we were off on our own traveling with friends!
