We had the good fortune of connecting with Niccole Hendrickson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Niccole, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My biggest mantra — and one that primed me for self-employment — is, “It’s me against me.”

I thrive in connecting with people and I knew that was essential in venturing out on my own. I wanted to seek mentorship from others, and build something uniquely my own that could help people in a way no one else was.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In the midst of the pandemic, my co-founder Jourdan and I decided there was no better time to build a business centered around community and achieving greater wellbeing from the inside out. That’s when KALO was born. Greater wellness sits at the intersection of mind and body, lifestyle and community connection — and that’s where you’ll find us. We use unique, athletic-based programming to create progress without the plateaus, and a small-group setting, paired with regular events, to give our clients the chance to connect with other women just like them. In addition, through personalized goal setting and nutrition coaching, we help change long-held beliefs and habits for the mental shift that creates truly long-lasting results.
As we now focus on expanding to a new location and new offerings, we are carrying so many lessons with us. Most importantly, staying true to who we are, quieting the noise of short-lived fitness trends, and listening to the community we’ve built as we keep fine tuning the services that best serve their lives.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The bestie is in town, we would wake early, grab a sunrise view at Red Rocks, head into Wash Park, crush a workout at KALO! After KALO, we would grab a juice, avocado toast plus chicken at The Green Collective Eatery. Mani and Pedis at Manicured denver. Head home to shower, relax, and enjoy the Colorado fresh air. That night we would grab apps and drinks at Perdida. Sunday, we would grab a coffee and treat at Devils Food and walk to Wash Park, enjoy relaxing facials at Alchemy Face bar and shop the local boutiques on tennyson.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my mom and dad. They raised my brother and I on the foundational pillars I’ve built my entire life on: honor, courage, commitment and unconditional love. From the time I was young to present day, they have held me accountable to being a good person, staying true to my word, and always acting with integrity. And they showed me time and time again that through the right mindset, it’s always possible to bloom right where you’re planted.
