We had the good fortune of connecting with Nichole Crockett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nichole, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always had a deep desire to help others. For the longest time I could not find the right profession that filled that desire in a way that massage therapy has for me now. I knew through massage therapy school, that I wanted to work with people who suffered from chronic pain. There is a shockingly large percentage of people who struggle with pain that limits them in their everyday lives and I wanted to be a part of that healing process. I also knew that having a niche in the massage therapy industry by offering a variety of modalities and treatments, would set me a part in my market.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my career in holistic health 10 years ago by offering personal training and nutrition coaching to the public. Quickly realizing that I wanted to be more hands on with my clients, to help on a much deeper level with their pain and body mechanics but all of those things were out of my scope of practice. I loved to educate my clients and I have always wanted to teach in one way or another. After so much research on different careers and education, I finally found massage therapy during a random Google search and instantly had that gut feeling; this is where I need to be. The mixture of hands on work, helping others with pain and including client education was a dream come true.

During massage therapy school at the Berkana Institute, I found my passion during our studies of musculoskeletal anatomy and deep tissue body work. I could not get enough of musculoskeletal anatomy and was fascinated with subconscious movement patterns that the body creates to navigate pain. I continued my studies with corrective movement and earned over 300 hours of continuing education in subconscious and conscious movement studies while in massage therapy school.
I was working full time, going to school and helping to manage our gym while in massage therapy school. Something I look back now and wonder “How did I manage to do all of that without a mental breakdown?!”
I graduated as the Valedictorian of my class and immediately set out to open my own private massage therapy practice. I knew that I did not want to work for anyone but myself. Already navigating the overwhelming process of opening one business alongside my partner, I started the journey of opening my private practice.
Within a month of graduation and state licensure, I designed and launched my own website, created my liability forms, designed my brand, acquired and decorated my space and launched my grand opening.

I wanted to be different than my competitors in my market. I earned certifications in cupping, Gua Sha muscle scraping, muscle energy techniques and red light therapy to be able to offer to my clients all while still assessing their deep tissue needs. One thing that sets my practice apart is that I offer spot specific treatments. Some clients do not want or need a full body massage therapy session at that time. I gladly offer spot specific sessions to focus on an area of concern for the client. I wanted to be part of the care team of my clients, working closely with Chiropractors, Physical Therapists and Naturopathic doctors. My in depth training at the Berkana Institute allowed me to be comfortable with deep tissue work and musculoskeletal injuries that other practices might shy away from. I took that knowledge base and used it to help establish trust within my clients and other health professionals.

Within a month of opening the doors of Divine Wellness, I have been booked every week with massage therapy and personal training clients.
Now to start the next journey in life and bring my true desires to fruition; I will be joining the Berkana Institute faculty as the Pathology Instructor this fall!

I got to where I am today with hard work, dedication and I truly believe; a positive mindset. I won’t say that any of this was easy per say but it all fell into place beautifully. Nothing about my journey has felt like work for me. I have always had such a deep passion to help others that I didn’t want to stop pushing until I got to where I wanted to be. Having the skills to guide others on their health journey is a privilege and having an amazing support group and solid mentors in your corner makes everything that much easier.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a paranormal fanatic! I love to explore abandoned and places with a story to tell of their own. The little town of Victor, Colorado has always been such a fun paranormal haunt to explore for me. The Victor Hotel, known for their ghost and haunted elevator is a must. Also, a night at the Patterson Inn near Capitol Hill, Denver would be on the list as a haunted stay for the night. The company Denver Walking Tours; offers a very fun, affordable ghost tour of capital hill, their guides are the best!

During the Spring-Fall months my husband and I do a lot of off-road exploring- driving up a 14’er is thrilling and something everyone should experience and the State of Colorado delivers on the scenery! We love to explore Webster Pass near the tiny, tiny town of Montezuma. On your way, you get to see some of the amazing I-70 traffic and then pass over the Continental Divide until you get to Montezuma and the mountains are quiet and breathtaking.

I may be biased, but Gunther Toody’s is our favorite Sunday breakfast spot. The chicken fried steak and eggs is always on point!

Of course, my friend would want to get a workout in at our gym and then get a massage at my practice! 🙂

We are pretty clean eaters so a nice treat for us is Maggiano’s downtown, Denver. The buy one take one for $5 is pretty killer! Then a nice walk downtown to people watch and explore is always in store. A stop at the MilkBox Creamery in Union Station is a cool spot to people watch and enjoy some sorbet or ice cream.

We like to make the loop North through Loveland to Estes on a nice day. Especially during rutting season to watch the elk!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I attended the Berkana Massage Therapy Institute for my professional massage therapy education. The Berkana Institute is unlike any other massage school, the style of learning encouraged at the Berkana Institute allowed me to expand and become a passionate therapist with a wealth of knowledge. I am so thankful to have found the Berkana Institute and create lasting mentorship opportunities from the faculty within.

My husband, Nic. Nic and I opened our own gym in 2016 and even through the chaos of already owning one business he has been supportive of my decision to pursue massage therapy school, open my own business and always provides me with the raw support that I need to keep pushing. I am beyond proud of our accomplishments together that continue to push us to our limits and bring us closer together.

My family. Without the love and support of my family I am not sure I would have made it through massage therapy school or the countless other endeavors that I have taken on.
