We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Gromicko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nick, how do you think about risk?
I love risk. I love risk because the profits that come from taking risks far outweigh the costs of managing that risk.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m a high school drop out. Back then, in the 70s, K-Mart used to sell an entire above-ground pool kit including pump and filter for $129. I started selling them installed for $399 or $499 financed (pay me a little whenever you can). I could install 3 myself on a weekend. 4 if I hired my teachers to help. My teachers were off in the summer and so I hired some of them. Once I installed one in a large plan of middle-class homes, every family in the plan ordered one from me..

I made so much money that I bought a new car with cash. My parents saw the new car and asked me how much I was making installing pools on the weekend. I told them. And by the expressions they had on their faces, I knew right then and there what I had to do. The next day I dropped out of school.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well of course I would take them to the InterNACHI House of Horrors®. The House of Horrors® is a 2-story home built inside 3-story building. The home is built all wrong, with thousands of defects. Inspectors from around the world come to train on it.
