We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicolas Dromard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicolas, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After performing on Broadway for over 15 years, we decided to create our two person show, our own brand/business to do what we love and create our own work.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Desi: As a woman in this business, competition is fierce. On top of the competition in numbers, I’ve had two knee surgeries (torn ACLs) that took me out for two years. Nic and I also welcomed our daughter in 2018, which took me out of auditioning/working for a long time. These obstacles only made me stronger, but also a reason why we wanted to create our show to be able to dictate our schedule and do what we love to do, instead of always trying to fit ourselves in a “box” for roles.
Nic: I was the only male in my dance studio growing up, so I was teased and made fun of a lot, especially in high school. I never let that deter me and it made me work harder.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We recently moved from New. York City to Orange County to be closer to family, so we are discovering new spots in our new home, but there’s amazing restaurants and sights in Orange County. Some of our favorites would be:
Disneyland (at least one day at each park to get on all the rides).
Strongwater Anaheim: one of our favorite Tiki bars with great food and delicious cocktails.
Laguna Beach: Some of the most beautiful beaches in Southern California.
A day in San Diego to go to the San Diego Zoo and sight see.
Of course drive up to Los Angeles to visit the Getty Museum, hike near the Griffith Observatory, see a show at the Pantages theatre or the Hollywood Bowl, and stop by the Santa Monica Pier.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Desi Davar: My mother taught me dance since I was a little girl, she has a dance studio in Orange County, so she deserves the biggest shoutout. She taught me everything I know and inspired me.
Nicolas Dromard: My parents also supported me. From the moment I told them I wanted to take dance classes, they said ok and paid for dance classes, music classes, singing lessons… Essentially paying the price of a house on my training! I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for their support.
