Meet Nicole Toledo | Pro Makeup Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Toledo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
One of the things about our industry that outsiders are probably unaware of is how much behind the scenes work takes place. Because a large part of my business entails working with brides a lot of people think I just work on the weekends and during the summer and fall. But working face-to-face with clients is just a just a small part. Of course, owning a business means you wear many hats. You are the accountant, social media manager, inventory control, etc. Even though I may not be working with clients on a specific day, I’m always putting effort into the business behind the scenes. When working with a bride, for example, it’s not just showing up on the day of and doing beautiful make up. There’s a lot of back-and-forth touch points discussing the look, timeline, preview appointment, skin prep recommendations, touchup kit recommendations, etc. There’s a lot of work that goes into each and every client but it’s so important to me that the client feels well cared for and that my top priority is creating a positive, stress free experience.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from other artists is that my goal is that clients feel like the absolute best versions of themselves. I focus on enhancing the features that the client loves the most, not making them look like an unrecognizable version of themself.
Given my extensive career, I am confident in working with a wide range of clients, including different skintones, ages, eye shapes, etc. Diversity is such a core value of my business. Being a professional make up artist means having a fully stocked kit ready to serve whoever sits in your chair. It also means staying up-to-date on your skills to give the best possible experience to your clients.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many amazing spots in the city. My favorite time of year is summer market season. Whether it is a farmers market or a makers market, you get to experience so many of the amazing creatives and talented individuals who live in our city. And it’s important to me to support local small businesses.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to get a shout out to all of my amazing clients who have been with me from the beginning and those who have allowed me to be their artist over the years. For the clients who have hired me to be part of one of their most special days. Thank you so much for trusting in me! I could not do it without you!
