We had the good fortune of connecting with Nolan Gross and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nolan, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks is so important in any form of creating because you have to jump and make the idea happen, just taking that leap is a risk. There are going to be many more that follow after that and what I’ve found is just to let myself try the wildest idea that might want to come through instead of shooting it down right away. Even the smallest idea could spark something else that helps bring the whole piece together. I feel like there have been decisions that I’ve made while making music that might not be normal but that’s what has made it fun. The album I’ve been working on for almost 2 years now feels like a step in the direction where I’m taking those risks and seeing them formulate into more articulate ideas that come together in a bigger story.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel what I am trying to accomplish through my art is a sense of vulnerability and rawness mixed with hours of dedication to the craft. When a sense of mastery and authenticity mixes, I love that. Since a young age, I have been searching for any creative outlet; acting, directing, designing photos, videos, music, to name a few…I never wanted to box myself in. Over time I started to see that all of the mediums of art started the blend into each other. When I made my first album in 2019, “The Path To Forever,” I got to create the artwork, the music videos, production, and create my own world. It was one of the first moments where I really knew that if I kept digging deeper there would be so much more for me to find while creating music. After I put my album out in 2020, the world started to shift and we just said why not make another project and craft a stronger team around this. That album will be coming out in 2022 and I am so excited & proud for the world to hear what has been made because the songs feel like our little secret right now. What I feel makes me the artist I am is attention to detail, which could mean that sets me apart because sometimes only one aspect is looked at, while I love finding many different ways to approach creating. I’ve learned the more you keep being curious and open, it’s much easier to flow with what you are being called to create.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Most days would probably start off by getting an açaí bowl, smoothie, or avocado toast…just too good to pass up. Then would go to a crazy viewpoint where we can see the whole city or scenery of nature after a beautiful hike. Explore some crazy vintage stores, skate, get some tattoos, and then make music or create art. Having a balance between exploring new places and just blissing out.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout Nobody. A close friend who I have been learning from these past few months and creating multiple forms of art with. Also shouts to, Rocco Moon, Tree Hill, Eden Wasted & my sister Elise, amazing artists I’ve been getting to create with and they all have insane projects on the way..
