We had the good fortune of connecting with Nub and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nub, what do you attribute your success to?
Matt: Everything we put out there, be it an ad, show, anything really… is a reflection of us and an opportunity to add more lore and identity to our band. Running an ad of a gig poster is not nearly as fun as a video of all us in the shower shampooing each other.

Red Stallion: We are uncompromisingly ourselves, and try to put a fun energy and our personality into everything we do. We’re having so much fun that we want everyone to laugh and dance with us.

Charles: I think a huge thing when running a band is building good relationships. We always do our darndest to be supportive of other musicians and reliable to venues. We try to help out the people we meet along the way and that often comes back around. I don’t think we would have gotten nearly as far without them. A supportive music community helps everyone.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Matt: Something I feel that makes us who we are, is that every song is its own project. It doesn’t have to have anything to do with the sound of another song we have made. If anything, if it seems like we are repeating an idea, it’s back to the drawing board. I’ll literally put on the Ren and Stimpy Christmas album every year like it’s a legit piece of music. Not too concerned about genres.

Red Stallion: While playing shows and writing music is certainly the core of what we do, it’s everything else that we do on top that makes a difference.

Charles: I’m proud of the album we made and we had a lot of fun making it. I like to think our attitude towards creating comes across in what we put out. Everyone takes the music seriously and no one takes themselves too seriously. Working with these guys resulted in something that’s pretty out there and I’m really looking forward to pushing that even farther with the next batch.

Matt: If there is a message or a vibe we try to deliver, it’s take weird seriously. Be uncompromisingly yourself, write music for yourself. It may cost you some market share, but if you make art that is a direct reflection of who you are, then those who love it also love you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Matt: Definitely the Book Ranch

Red Stallion: There’s lots of hiking to do in the area, most notably the twin peaks trail and Horsetooth rock

Charles: If i was taking someone to see fort collins I think my two biggest recommendations would be Pinball Jones in old Town and any Blast n’ Scrap event currently happening.

PBJ is an awesome pinball arcade and bar down in a basement near the square. They have freeplay days and tournaments that are really popular.

Blast n’ Scrap is a completely DIY music event that moves around to different venues. They find all the most out of the box, interesting local bands. It’s a nonprofit too so every event is supporting some good cause. I really believe it’s a major contributor to revitalizing the Ft Collins music scene.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
