We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Lien and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Olivia, why did you pursue a creative career?
Ever since I was young I have always had a passion for art. It would be rare to see me at school without a pencil and paper in hand. Even into high school, I would draw to help me focus in class. My passion of drawing mixed with conventions and I had shown my work to the general public at my first table in 2010. Over the following years, I found friends and a community that supported and inspired me to continue and pursue my creative career. I honestly can’t see a future where I’m not dedicating myself to my artwork.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
With my work, it’s hard to place it in a gallery or exhibit. My work is functional. Whether it’s a tote bag or a blanket, my art is applied to things that can be used in everyday situations. Each passing year I learn more and more ways to improve my work. I focus on the quality of my work along with ways I can help connect with others. I love making pieces that are a conversation starter as similar pieces have helped me make friends!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
[For this section, let’s just pretend we’re not in a middle of a pandemic] I’d probably end up taking a friend to a few of my favorite restaurants. Colorado is especially popular for it’s Hispanic foods (and growing up in a Hispanic family myself, I know a thing or two about some authentic food). I would also take this friend to Round 1. It is an Asian influenced arcade with karaoke, bowling, billiards, and darts. When it first opened, it was one of my favorite places to hang out. The UFO crane machines had authentic Japanese prizes in them and the cabinets were some of the newest straight from Japan.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my shout out to my friends and family. Without their unwavering support I would not be where I am artistically today. I am truly lucky to have such wonderful people in my life.
