We had the good fortune of connecting with Paula Jo Jaconetta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paula Jo, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I didn’t think a whole lot about it when I first started producing fine art images and shooting weddings and portraits. I went to school for photography, so I knew it was where I wanted to be. Creating and making a living. I did see a lack of creative photography in our area 25 years ago and just a lack of photographers as a whole, so I started taking on jobs and creating art to sell and started participating in the art scene in Steamboat Springs. It was really an organic process.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love to be in my garden. It is a place of peace and well being for me. Most of my fine art images are all botanical image. It is a subject I really connect with and love to see hanging on my clients walls. Steamboat Springs has been a wonderful start into my fine art collections. The community has really embraced artist and it it a joy to connect with all of them in this community. I have always strived to be a very unique person in my approach to almost everything in like, but what I have really learned as an artist and that we all get inspiration for our next idea or art collection from one another. A connection to each other only make us all thrive.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
An ideal day in Routt County would consist of a hike in the flat tops, with an afternoon lunch at Lupita’s Cantina, followed by an hot springs soak at Strawberry Park and then an evening dinner at any spot in Steamboat offering the best vegetarian food and drinks. This valley has so much to offer, you could do this same thing everyday and hit someplace different and wonderful, a new trail, a new restaurant.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Steamboat Springs has been a great entry into the art world and into wedding/portrait photography. The Art Depot (now Steamboat Creates) was a huge push for me when it was run by Susan Schiesser. She was such an inspiration and always pushing for more creative out reaches in the beginning of my career. Also, the artist who were part of the Artist Gallery of Steamboat were so wonderful to share a gallery with and were a huge part of my art process.
