Meet Pedro Abdalla | Musician, Songwriter – The Warrior Poet

We had the good fortune of connecting with Pedro Abdalla and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pedro, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
The cost of being an independent musician. I dont talk about this to sound depressing, but I enjoy opening up the curtains. Being an artist, more than in any other moment in history, is an expense. You would think its better now because of social media and how we can put our music out there for anyone to see. Sure, that is true. But in that, virality is the only thing that’s being chased. Artists are expected to “build their own audience” before they get any opportunities. Followers, likes and shares…all that can be bought with bots and other services, became more valuable than the music. People will pay less for a good mix so they have some money for instagram ads. The dream of starting from the bottom and getting to the top becomes even harder to reach. Imagine working 2 jobs, paying for musicians, mix, master, studio time, rehearsal time, ads, courses, distributers, merch…This will lead to an environment where only the people with money (and usually with no perspective of real struggles) are reaching your ears. That’s why my music is about the real world. I dont say this for pity. It is simply a reflection of our current reality, and I believe the job of an artist is exactly that: to reflect and to share.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art reflects deeply the experiences I have faced in life, and those have been many. I won’t call them a struggle, but they were definitely formative. Divorces parents, poor side of Rio de Janeiro, immigrant, late bloomer, loss in the family…all that but also loving parents, good health, college graduate, parents with good musical taste….My work is a reflection of the good and bad, how one cannot come without the other and the beauty in accepting that reality. My favorite part about writing music is when people come to me to say how relating to the story in the songs gives them a sense of relief.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to everyone who takes the time to listen to my music. Hell….shoutout to all of you listening to independent artists. It is not your job to do so but yet you choose to find the hidden gems. I appreciate you all.
