Meet Pernille Vedersø Bussone | Global Community Captain

We had the good fortune of connecting with Pernille Vedersø Bussone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pernille Vedersø, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Cycling Without Age, a global social movement, started when Ole and Thorkild met each other on a bench in front of a nursing home in Copenhagen. They found out they enjoyed exploring their neighborhood on a trishaw. Since their first ride, other residents wanted to try too and now people are riding in 39 countries around the world. It was not a planned process, but the simple idea of offering a ride in a trishaw to someone with limited mobility, sparked something with changemakers across the globe.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Cycling Without Age is helping people with limited mobility across the globe, get access to their city and to new relationships. It’s a social movement that helps to promote cycling and more livable and equitable cities. Everybody should be able to ride a bike, no matter their age and ability, and that’s what we’re fighting for. Our motto is “The Right to Wind In Your Hair”, because we believe that fresh air and adventure is what makes life beautiful. We’re also fighting for relationships to be a human right, people live longer and better lives when they relate to others. That’s not always taken into account when new nursing homes are built. Cycling Without Age is based on these guiding principles: storytelling, without age, relationships, generosity and slowness.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would go to the local nursing home with a Cycling Without Age trishaw and book a ride with a resident, that’s a way to explore any city and learn from the locals.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to credit all the people around the world who are spearheading Cycling Without Age in their communities. They’re making the world a better place one bike ride at a time.
