Meet Petr Basel | Videographer / Director of photography/ editor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Petr Basel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Petr, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well, it was pretty complicated. I have been making videos for a few years while working at the Four Seasons Hotel in Whistler, BC, Canada. At one point, I had to turn down some projects, because I could not get time off work, so I decided to switch to part-time in the hotel and do video full time. And I happened to sit at my home, with very little income due to the shortage of tourists in hotel, and no video project to film. I quickly realized that in order to get busier, I need to go out and hunt for clients. It took me probably good six months to get it going.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m a man of all trades. One-man show is what I do the best. Over the 12 years I have been making videos, I filmed NHL games broadcasts, I worked on big TV shows and movies as a grip and dolly grip (the guy who pushes cameraman on trolley :), Bigger commercials and I worked in Los Angeles for 2 years. I’m the happiest with a camera in my hand, doesn’t matter what I am filming.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh man, living on the West Coast, I’m not really sure where to start. I live in a small town, 60 minutes East of Vancouver, BC, Canada. I don’t think one week is enough to explore beautiful British Columbia, so it will be a packed schedule. Ok, so let’s say it is summer. You arrive in Vancouver and let’s do one night there. Vancouver has the best Asian cuisine anywhere, I will take you out for a Vietnamese Pho soup, into Pholicious, in downtown. The best Pho around, and probably the cheapest around $10 CAD. that is like Two US dollars haha.:)
After that, we head out to SteamWorks pub for a few beers. Sleep on it, and go out to the mountains. We will drive the most beautiful highway, Sea To Sky up to Whistler. Go mountain biking on the top of the world in the bike park, which takes you to the absolute peak of the mountain. Then you descend 1700 m vertical, which is over 5000 feet on your bike. Go out to Sushi Village for a party, next day explore all waterfalls around. Head to Squamish, and spend two days over there. Take a Ferry to Vancouver Island and go hiking into one of the most beautiful forests you can imagine in Tofino, oh and go surfing, as Tofino is the only place in Canada with fantastic waves.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout-out to the Four Seasons Hotel Whistler. Because of them, I was able to start doing what I love. Being able to film videos for them, and for all the other Four Season hotels in Canada. Thank you, you are the best.
