Meet Phoenix Fine | Music Producer, DJ, Songwriter, & Sound Wizard

We had the good fortune of connecting with Phoenix Fine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Phoenix, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking is my number one source for creativity. When looking for a great place to start writing from, I always ask myself “what is the coolest, and unconventional way I can achieve this?” or “what weird sound or concept can I use as a jumping off point?”
My biggest example is the entirety of the STRANGE WORLD album. I have yet to find an EDM album that has a concept and connects the way it does (put me on if you know of one). The promo for it and the release party was a pretty big risk too. The release party was themed with clouds and lights, and I even tried my best to make sure everyone was in pajamas to fit the theme of the record.
Did I get a huge turnout? No. Do I care? NO!!!! All this meant was that I am capable of pulling something like that off in the future! Taking that risk is still the biggest highlight of my career thus far!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I make many variations of Dubstep and Electronic Music. I always fluctuate between genres, and I won’t settle for one “style” or anything like that. I take pride in my songwriting, and my sound design.
What I think sets me apart from other artists is the way my albums flow and what they represent. I have a very particular album release schedule that keeps me focused and forward-thinking. Every album has its own sound, story, and concept. (yes, even the early bad ones.) I make sure most of my music is unconventional in its structure, sound, and flow. My “style” is my unpredictability.
This journey started when I was born, when I would wander into the garage where my dad would be playing guitar. I would pretend to be helping by banging on things or making noise or whatever I could do (I was very very very young). I grew up on Metal, and always thought I would be a singer for a metal band. Fast forward about 10 years or so when I discovered EDM. I was watching a Geometry Dash video from a guy named AlexPain or something. He used Energy Drink by Virtual Riot as his intro, and I was immediately hooked. Listening to Virtual Riot helped me get familiar enough to stomach listening to Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites by Skrillex, and I was sold!
From that moment, I cracked (and then bought) FL Studio, and worked my hardest every day to try to get as good as I could at music production. 8 years later, I have switched to Ableton (best DAW) and I have a couple of records under my belt, a couple of big shows, 1000 instagram followers, and this interview!!
I remember Nyk, a friend at the time, introduced me to a group called SPACE FARM, whom threw house parties every weekend where they would livestream, and throw sets every Sunday. My first ever show was a 15 minute set, and I met a lot of people through that. These connections ended up branching out into REAL show opportunities in the future! My first booking was at this bar, where 3 of the homies from SF showed up for it (my first headline lol)
Nowadays, I’m releasing a consistant stream of singles, preparing for an album, and doing shows whenever I can. Over the past couple of years up to this point, the most valuable lesson I learned from all of this is to be 10000% genuine and kind. That REALLY shows in this industry.
Also, just to get this out there, there is NO MEANING to the name SENRALL. I think I remember just putting random syllables together, and it stuck.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend straight to downtown Colorado Springs, and show them around to all of the little bar clubs that started it all for me (The SPACE FARM house, Bar K, Artist Nightclub, AQUA, ect.). We would probably survive on nothing but Burgers, Flaming Hot Cheetos and Slushee’s, and be super unhealthy. But, its worth it regardless.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
