We had the good fortune of connecting with Phoenix Sagen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Phoenix, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
My favorite affirmation is “there isn’t anything I can’t do, if I don’t know something, it’s just because I haven’t learned it yet”. It means there is always room for growth. That I can do anything I set my mind to. To start a business, change my perspective, learn new things, the possibilities are essentially…. endless. This way of thinking opens me up to creative problem solving and has given me an unbreakable belief in myself because I know I can do whatever I set my mind to.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am an adventure seeker, who started my own travel agency, MyTravel4Ever, so I could continue to travel the world and help others travel too. I’ve been to more countries before I could drive than most people will see in a lifetime. I have a passion and drive to explore the world, learn from its history, be immersed in the culture and people.

Through MyTravel4Ever, I lead adventures all over the world, everything from Retreats (trips with an educational component) to Expeditions (straight adventure and fun trips) and I invite others to come along with me to explore the world together. I believe travel can be transformational. There is so much you learn about yourself when you travel. It opens your eyes to things outside your own norm. It leaves you breathless, fosters compassion, tolerance, and acceptance for other people and cultures. It is truly life-changing and most importantly … some things in this life, in the world, you just have to see for yourself. I have the best job in the world helping people do just that…to see and experience all this world has to offer.

The road has not been an easy one. The last few years with COVID have been some of the most challenging in my career. However, I am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel and if there is one thing I know about people…we are inherently explorers. Travel will always come back, it looks different now than it did 3 years ago and it will continue to change as will I so I can go and learn as my industry does.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a tough question because it depends on the season, the reason and my mood LOL  If it were winter, we would head to a tropical beach for fun in the sun, swimming, snorkeling, amazing food and jungle activities. Europe is incredible in the spring, Holland for the Tulip festival or a river cruise down the Rhine, wine tasting and cooking classes with museum visits and historical tours. Fall is a great time to visit east Africa, Kenya and Tanzania for safaris, animal encounters, bush dinners and music. The great thing about my besties is that they know when it comes to having a good time, we literally could be anywhere, the best memories are the moments that are shared.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband Eric is my biggest supporter. He has been through it all with me. He once told me that I was the bravest person he knows that I jump in, learn quick, and give 100% to anything I do but where he really has the most respect and admiration for me is how I get up after I fall. The truth is I’ve failed more times than I can count. I like to think of each of those failures as lessons instead so in truth, I’ve never failed … I’ve learned. What to do, what not to do, who I can truth, who to keep at a distance, what companies I want to work with, which ones I don’t, who’s the right client for me, who isn’t, etc… and each time I learn something new I get stronger. This allows me to be able to get up and keep moving, to keep learning and that is what he is really talking about. He is my sounding board, my constant, the love of my life so if anyone deserves a shoutout, it’s him hands down my favorite human.

There are many other people who have helped shape me into the person I am, whether they know it or not is a different story. Some of them I’ve never met, but they have all impacted my life in their own way. My grandmother Wynn taught me art and the magic of creating beautiful things, my other grandmother Rose had taught me to never give up. She has had three hip replacements (one had to be re-done) and each time she plans a trip as motivation to keep going and not be “the old lady” who can’t walk. She is 85 and still going strong galivanting around the world with us, her family. Then there are people like Brene Brown, James Clear and Marie Forleo who’s books have helped guide me to be a better person. I’ve had menotrs and coaches, teachers and guides who have all touched my life in their own way. I’m grateful for each and every one of them.
