Meet Quinn Chody | Photographer/ Videographer/ Video Editor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Quinn Chody and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Quinn, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued a creative career, because I wanted to always be doing different things. I also wanted to be able to use my creative abilities to help show off different things in the world wether it be a product or a landscape.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I shoot action sports, landscapes, lifestyle and products. Majority of my photography is shot in nature, even my product photos. I love being able to combine products and landscapes. I also sell fine art prints on my website quinnchody.com. I have a variety of different photo options, sizes, and mediums to print on. My favorite being metal. I believe the color, contrast, and clarity of a high quality metal print make it the best medium.
I am proud to be running my own business and to be able to work around the things that I enjoy doing in life. It has been very hard starting and running my own business, but knowing that I’m working for myself makes it worth it. Finding clients and getting my name out there has definitely been the most difficult part. I’ve had to get over the awkwardness of cold calling and emailing. I’ve learned that I just have to put my ego aside, keep moving forward, staying consistent, and chasing after what I am wanting to become.
I would like the world to know that I am thankful for the opportunity to share my art, and help businesses show off their products. I am also deeply grateful to be able to explore and travel to beautiful places around the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The day always starts with some homemade espresso (or maybe a vanilla latte with oat milk if i’m feeling up to it). Then we’d snag a breakfast burrito from Durango Joes and hit the mountains. We would either be skiing or hiking, depending on the season. We would explore the San Juans, and probably go up to Silverton for some lunch and a little off-roading one day. If we have time, we’d hop over to Telluride to ski or to camp. If its super hot, we would go paddle boarding, either at one of the nearby reservoirs or on the Animas river. After all the activity, I would take them to go soak in some of the local hot springs. As for food, we would definitely go to the Himalayan spot in town, its the best. After that we would be hitting up the ice cream shop, for some insane vegan ice cream. Then it’s early to bed so we can get up and do some more exploring the next day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Above everything I want to thank my mom for always pushing me to do what makes me happy and for not letting me settle for anything less. I will never forget when she told me “Follow your heart… Know how powerful you are. Do what you want to do and what you don’t… don’t.”.
I also want to shoutout the Commercial Photography program at Appalachian State University. There is no way I would be where I am today without the help and knowledge of all of the professors and other students. It was an incredible environment to create in and I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from all of them.
Also, the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains and Western North Carolina as a whole helped shape my view of the world and of art. There is a lot of incredible art created in that part of the country and it was and still is very inspiring to me.
