We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachael Silverstein and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachael, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Creating images and capturing special memories that I know families will treasure makes me feel happy and fulfilled as a photographer. Celebrations such as weddings, a baby’s first year, b’nai mitzvahs, and baptisms, all go by in the blink of an eye—I love being able to document these moments for families, knowing how priceless these images will be to families and loved ones.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Rachael Elana Photography specializes in capturing genuine emotion with an artistic feel and creative use of light. I’m known for “bright, happy, artsy” images and creative portraiture. I climb, squat, and move in often questionable ways in order to get “the shot”—I’m a very active photographer! I have also been called a baby-whisperer as I love spending time with little ones and capturing those fleeting magical months and years of early childhood.

There are many talented photographers in Denver and Boulder but I think what primarily sets me apart is my client experience and timeless editing style. Creative types are not always the best business people or the best communicators. I have those skills in addition to understanding how, why, and where my images will be used for commercial clients in addition to family clients. I’ve also noticed since moving from NYC to Denver in 2021, that muted and earthy filters are fairly common in Colorado and the West Coast. I edit in a timeless style so my 30-something couples getting married now, will love their photos just as much as when they’re in their 80s.

My clients initially hire me for my style, quality of my images, and likely from seeing my work online or being referred by a friend. I believe I have so many repeat customers and have a referral-based business because they enjoy the experience beyond the shoot from the planning process through ordering prints and albums.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom and dad have always been my number one supporters and cheerleaders (they’re tied for first place). Thanks to them, I have always pursued my passions, have the confidence to try new things (without the fear of failing), and have instilled confidence and self-worth at a very young age. If I didn’t believe in myself, no one else would—especially as a business owner! Thanks to my amazing parents, I’ve had the determination and courage to pursue my dreams as a photographer. I have photographed weddings all around the United States and France. Never in a million years would I have guessed where my business would lead me and who it would bring into my life. I credit my parents for giving me the space, freedom, love, and support to be my authentic self and fearlessly pursue the life I want.
