We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Hayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always wanted to help others and be my own boss. I come from a long line of people that created their own businesses and it seemed important to me and my upbringing. And being your own boss teaches you a lot as well as give you the ability to help others the way that you see fit and are most comfortable doing. I also wanted to show my kiddos that it’s possible, and try to incorporate them into some of my work as well.
What should our readers know about your business?
It has been difficult from Child abuse to neglect and being groomed by my first husband who was my boss. I always say I would never change my past because it formed who I am today and where my passion comes from. It drives my therapy business as well as pushes me to continue to finish two books I am working on in regards to my childhood trauma as well as living with multiple sclerosis. I have been able to strive for more for myself and my family. My husband and kids are the reasons I continue to push myself forward. At times it can be difficult like earlier this year when I had to use a cane to walk, however through support and love I have been able to cut out dietary allergies around gluten and milk in order to live my best possible life for my family and myself. I hope to continue to change lives through therapy and my books. A book was what saved me for the best.
I also have a masters in aromatherapy which I studied because of the positive effects with some oils helping me with optic neuritis and mood.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My family, kids and myself love going to old town Fort Collins. We love the food, games and events that occur here. I would take them to vatos tacos, The silver grill and the RARE . And probably Estes park to also see the hotel from the shining movie where they have a lot of animal life and also good food.
I would want to Show them other fun places like grand lakes and some farms in town. There’s also the moods yogurt place where you can have lunch and do tours.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yea there have been positive supports in my life one being Laurel Timothy. She is not my birth mom but a chosen mom and her husband Mike. My husband is very supportive as well and a hard worker. The one book I reminder from by childhood was the “Child called IT” by Dave pelzner, and that really helped me to realize I didn’t want to keep living the same things over and over again as well as that what I was experiencing was abuse and not ok.
