We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Winnick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, what do you attribute your success to?
I have found the most success and growth from what I do as an artist/musician when I maintain a positive mindset and surround myself with a good team of creatives. Success comes with time, motivation, self-determination, inspiration, and support. As a newer artist, it’s imperative to surround yourself with people that motivate, encourage, and challenge you in ways that foster growth. I am grateful and lucky to be working with an amazing team at Pure Artist Music LLC.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Be real and be rare is my brand title as an artist. My songs are slightly abstract for varied listening, although I work to maintain my warm and grounded vocals. Lyrical precision is important to me in my songwriting as the story is just as significant as the sound. I hope listeners can hear their own story when they play my songs as music resonates differently with everyone.
What makes me the most fulfilled in this journey is meeting and collaborating with other creatives. The biggest lesson I’ve learned thus far is simply that some people will be drawn to you and your craft and others will not. Neither indicates that you are “good” or “bad” at your craft. Everything is subjective. Finding the right audience and what works best for you as an artist is key. This is what I am working on!
Most of the challenges I have faced thus far as an upcoming artist have been battles that don’t actually involve music at all. Learning how to let go of past difficulties has been both motivating and discouraging at times.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend visited in the fall, the first planned day would involve a drive through the mountains to see the beautiful aspens.
In/around Denver, we would find a show at Mission Ballroom or Red Rocks to see. The Denver Botanic Gardens would be on the list of sights as well as an Avalanche game and the Denver Selfie Museum. The coffee spot is most definitely Steam Espresso bar and breakfast would have to be at Jelly Cafe. A must for dinner is DiFranco’s and dessert would be at D Bar Denver in uptown.
I would also want to hike with my friend in Boulder at the flatirons and take them to/through my hometown of Colorado Springs.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout Aaliyah Shambe- my producer, recording coach, and closest friend. Aaliyah is the co-founder of Pure Artist Music LLC. Upon reconnecting in college at the University of Denver, we have been singing together, writing, and recording music. Aaliyah’s influence and encouragement has played a huge role in my musical journey and life journey overall.
