We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I come from a family of entrepreneurs and I have a strong personality so I knew I needed to work for myself. I had a cleaning business for many years and I had always dreamed of opening a little store where everything was for sale: the art, the books , the decorations, etc. But I was unsure of what the main theme should be. While vacationing with my mom and sisters the summer of 2019 we stumbled into a tiny little shop completely full of plants and pots. I knew at that moment that was the kind of store I wanted to open. I’m also from a greenhouse family so the plant theme fit perfectly. I was raised working in a greenhouse surrounded by plants for most of my life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is plants! We strive to have healthy, beautiful plants to share with our customers, Our goal is to help you bring life to your home with the best plant for you and your abilities. We try to give honest advice about which plant will work in your home. I go to work excited every day to be surrounded by beauty and to help our customers become the best plant parents they can be. I have learned that honesty is the best policy. We definitely send our customers to other stores if we think they will find a better option there. I think what sets us apart is that we are willing to lose a sale if it means keeping our integrity.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friends to lots of cute local places to eat and shop! I love Urbane Collective for clothing and gifts. The Local Honey is adorable! I would go to Monses or Dos Santos for lunch. Kindship Landing is a beautiful place to just relax and read. Of course, all the wonderful hiking in town would be a must. Covered Treasures bookstore in Monument is a definite go to. Dinner would be Ambli or if we wanted more casual we might go to White Pie.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My dad is actually a huge inspiration to my work ethic and ability to take risks. He is never afraid to fail and jumps at new opportunities when they arise. It’s a quality that I was raised to value and I’m quite certain it’s in my genetics too. I also have a fabulous support system of friends and family who have helped me immensely along the way. From tearing down ceilings, to building shelves, to helping me figure out accounting, to picking up my kid from school…..I could not have done any of this without their help.
