We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachelle Foos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachelle, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success, both personally and in my career, has always been the ability to express myself authentically through design. From an early age, I’ve been drawn to visual storytelling, and that passion has shaped not only the brands I’ve worked with but also my own brand as a micro-influencer on Instagram. Whether I’m designing for major clients like Google, Tinder, or PopSockets, or curating content for my social media, I focus on creating meaningful connections through visuals. It’s not just about making something look good—it’s about capturing the essence of a brand or message and translating that into something relatable, yet unforgettable. One career highlight that really stands out for me is leading a campaign for Google that generated over 22k app installs and reached 10 million views. That experience reaffirmed my belief that authentic, well-crafted design can drive not just engagement, but real results.
What really drives me is that inspiration is all around us, especially in fashion. Every day I find ways to integrate what I see and feel into my designs, whether it’s the textures, colors, or patterns I encounter while walking through a city or browsing a vintage store. My style is a reflection of that; it’s eclectic, bold, and personal—just like my designs. As a micro-influencer, I share these inspirations with my followers and try to encourage them to see the beauty in everyday things. It’s been amazing to connect with people who resonate with that creative energy. I believe that design isn’t just about what’s on the page or screen—it’s a lifestyle, something that influences how I move through the world.
In many ways, I see fashion like fonts. Each one has its own personality and tells a different story. You have fonts like Helvetica that are clean, reliable, and universal, much like some of the more corporate work I’ve done for brands like Avalara and NOV. Then there are fonts like Bodoni—elegant, yet bold—that align with my more creative, daring projects, like rebranding efforts or product packaging design for fashion and lifestyle brands. Just as each font brings its own tone to a message, I try to infuse each project with its own distinct personality, one that aligns with the client but also feels uniquely mine. Every brand I work with is like a new typeface I get to help define.
At the core, the success of my brand, and by extension the brands I collaborate with, lies in embracing diversity in design, much like the wide range of fonts we have at our disposal. I’m not afraid to mix styles, break the mold, or take risks with a design. That’s how I fit into the world—I’m constantly evolving, just like the design landscape. Whether it’s through the projects I work on or how I present myself online, I’m always looking to push boundaries and make sure that my work feels fresh, inspired, and above all, true to who I am.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a vibrant reflection of who I am—bright, colorful, and full of energy. What sets me apart is how I infuse my personality into every project, creating designs that are as bold and dynamic as my approach to life. My portfolio is a testament to this; it’s loud and unapologetically unique, mirroring the enthusiasm and creativity that I bring to every brand or product I work with. Whether it’s reimagining a campaign for a major clients or creating engaging social media content, I thrive on making an impact that’s both visually striking and emotionally resonant.
Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy, and the journey was filled with its fair share of challenges. My first major role was a baptism by fire, working with Shay Baumhauer to completely rebrand five different restaurant brands. It was a steep learning curve, but it taught me invaluable lessons about the real corporate world and the importance of resilience and adaptability. Overcoming obstacles often meant pushing through self-doubt and embracing the learning opportunities that come from stepping outside my comfort zone. Investing in mentors and collaborating with talented individuals helped me refine my skills and approach each project with a fresh perspective.
One career highlight that stands out is leading the rebranding efforts early in my career. This experience not only honed my ability to manage complex projects but also reinforced the value of resilience and continuous learning. Each challenge faced during this period contributed significantly to my growth, shaping my approach to design and creative strategy. The lessons learned from navigating these obstacles have been crucial in developing my unique style and approach, allowing me to deliver work that is both innovative and impactful.
What I want people to know about my brand story is that it’s deeply authentic and delightfully unpredictable. I believe in stepping outside of everyday expectations and routines to deliver something truly special. My work is a celebration of breaking the mold and embracing creativity in all its forms. Whether through a colorful design or a compelling campaign, my goal is to inspire others to embrace their own uniqueness and explore new ways of thinking. Engaging with my work means experiencing a creative journey that challenges the norm and celebrates individuality.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting Denver for a week, I’d make sure they experience the city’s vibrant food scene, unique spots, and exciting activities. Here’s how I’d plan out the week:
Breakfast:
We’d kick off our mornings with a visit to Lady Nomad, known for its innovative breakfast offerings and cozy atmosphere. Their breakfast burritos and fresh pastries are a perfect start to the day. For a unique twist, we’d also check out Leven Deli Co for their delightful bagels and smoked salmon dishes. After breakfast, a stroll around the RiNo District to enjoy its street art and lively ambiance would be a great way to soak in the local flavor.
Lunch:
For lunch, Dio Mio is a must-visit with its creative pasta dishes and inviting atmosphere. Their handmade pasta and modern Italian fare are always a hit. Another spot on our list would be Run For the Roses, known for its delicious sandwiches and vibrant decor. After lunch, we’d explore the nearby Union Station and its blend of historic charm and contemporary vibe.
Dinner:
When it’s time for dinner, A5 is the place to go for an upscale dining experience featuring top-notch steaks and an elegant atmosphere. It’s perfect for a special night out. For a more relaxed dinner, Bodega Denver offers a fantastic mix of small plates and craft cocktails in a stylish setting. We’d end the evening with a leisurely walk around City Park to take in the beautiful Denver skyline and serene surroundings.
Dessert & Bars:
For dessert, Odyssey would be our go-to spot for its delectable pastries and unique flavors. It’s a hidden gem that adds a touch of sweetness to the day. After dessert, we’d head to The High Dive for some local craft cocktails or to Williams & Graham, a speakeasy-style bar known for its inventive drinks and cozy ambiance. Both spots are perfect for enjoying Denver’s nightlife and mingling with locals.
Going Out:
To round off the week, we’d immerse ourselves in the vibrant scene of The RiNo District, exploring its art galleries and enjoying live music. A visit to Red Rocks Amphitheatre for a concert or to admire the stunning natural beauty is a must. We’d also check out Larimer Square for its historic charm, unique shops, and lively nightlife. Denver’s blend of culture, food, and fun would ensure an unforgettable visit.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My success isn’t something I’ve achieved alone. I owe so much to my mom and dad, Carol and Rich, for always pushing me to be competitive and strive for the best in everything I do. They ingrained in me from a young age that in life, to be successful, you don’t have to be perfect, but you have to try. That mindset has carried me through every challenge and opportunity in my career. Their belief in my ability to accomplish anything I set my mind to has been the foundation of everything I’ve built.
A huge shoutout also goes to my first boss right out of college, Shay Baumhauer, who took a chance on me and gave me an opportunity that truly changed my path. I was thrown into the deep end, rebranding and rebuilding five different restaurant brands. Shay taught me so much about navigating the corporate world, and without that experience, I don’t think I’d have the confidence I have today. She not only trusted my vision but gave me the space to make mistakes, learn from them, and grow into the designer I am now.
I can’t forget my amazing friends, Robin and Lindsey, who have been unwavering pillars of support. As someone who puts themselves out there through my content and creative work, it’s easy to feel like you’re exposed to the judgment of others. But they’ve always been there, reminding me that while my reach may be small at times, what I’m doing matters. Their encouragement has kept me going on days when self-doubt crept in, and they remind me to keep pushing forward and embracing the journey.
So, to everyone who’s been part of my story—thank you. It’s the collective support, trust, and love from my parents, mentors, and friends that have fueled my passion, and without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Each of them has shaped me, challenged me, and helped me realize my potential in ways I never could have on my own.
