We had the good fortune of connecting with Randi Rheaa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Randi, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose a creative career as a photographer because it allows me to express my unique perspective on the world and explore my passion for capturing beauty, especially in relation to societal standards. My journey began early, inspired by a love for nature, family moments, and the desire to preserve those cherished experiences. As I grew, my struggle with identity as a young woman and how society projects beauty deeply influenced my work. Photography became a way for me to navigate and reflect on these complex themes, allowing me to create surreal images that convey my personal journey and the broader societal narratives around beauty.
This creative path offers me the freedom to explore and communicate emotions, stories, and ideas visually, making it the perfect medium for me to share my voice and vision with the world.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is my commitment to creating surreal, fashion-forward images that challenge and reflect societal standards of beauty. I’m incredibly proud of how my work has evolved to not only showcase beauty but also delve into the personal and emotional landscapes of the women I photograph. What excites me most is seeing how my art continues to resonate and inspire, pushing boundaries and inviting new conversations.
Reaching this point in my career has been a journey of passion, perseverance, and constant growth. It hasn’t always been easy; I faced numerous challenges in finding my unique voice and navigating the industry. Overcoming these obstacles involved embracing feedback, collaborating with talented individuals, and remaining dedicated to my vision. Each challenge taught me valuable lessons about authenticity, the power of collaboration, and the importance of adaptability.
I want the world to know that my work is more than just photography—it’s a heartfelt exploration of beauty and identity. My brand reflects my personal journey and serves as a platform to question and redefine standards, celebrating the complex and multifaceted nature of women and the stories they carry.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, we’d start the week by dreaming up an epic photoshoot because creating stunning imagery together is something we can never resist. After brainstorming ideas, we’d get all dressed up, as we always do, and head out for a day of shopping, exploring stylish boutiques, and finding those perfect, unique pieces. Of course, we’d have to pause for high tea along the way, indulging in delicious treats because it’s our little ritual that makes the day feel even more special.
In the evening, we’d unwind by sipping on crafted cocktails at a secret underground Alice in Wonderland-themed bar, because everything we do has to have that touch of magic. Midweek, we’d find ourselves back in the studio or at a breathtaking location, co-creating more magical imagery. After our shoot, we’d wind down the week by visiting galleries and attending fashion shows, savoring cute foods and drinks while spending quality time together. We’d map out our lives, share our dreams, and secretly start planning our next adventure, cherishing every moment until we meet again.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My work in the industry would not be what it is today without the collaboration and subjects I photograph of those who have joined me on this journey. Each contribution has played a crucial role in shaping both my work and my story as a photographer. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of this evolution, as their impact has been vital in defining who I am and what I do.
