We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Durst and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Every small town has a staple gift shop or boutique where women can gather, gab, gander, and giggle. Located in Johnstown, there are limited places to shop for clothing and you have to drive at least 20 minutes for more options. I launched an online boutique last fall as I wanted to make it easy and convenient for women in my community to shop local and not have to travel far. Head Over Boots Boutique offers unique women’s clothing, accessories, of course, BOOTS! We offer free porch pickup and local delivery to Johnstown and Milliken residents. Historic Downtown Johnstown is missing a boutique, so a long-term goal of mine is to open a brick-and-mortar store there. To start, our boot-tique can be found online, in-person at our vendor booth in Sugar Mill Antiques & Vintage Depot located in Mead, and at local pop-up shops in Northern Colorado. We know you will fall head over boots in love with our styles!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Blame it all on my roots, I was born in Dallas, Texas and have always had a love for boots. I’ve spent the majority of my life in Colorado and graduated in 2011 from Colorado State University in Fort Collins with a Construction Management degree. I’ve worked in the retail industry for many years and have always had a dream of starting my own business and helping people. I saw how important it was during the pandemic to support small businesses and that many people prefer to shop local, especially from someone they know. In 2022, I quit dragging my boots and took a leap of faith by launching my dream. The support has been tremendous and I’m so proud of what I’ve built in just a few short months. I stop here because these boots were made for expanding!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve grown fond of Northern Colorado and I’m incredibly grateful to call it my home. I’ve been a Johnstown resident for the past 7 years and really enjoy the people in this close-knit community. I love supporting other small business owners so we’d stay local and so that I could introduce my friend to some wonderful people. Our first stop would be at Fitness Avenue to get our workout on, then fuel up with J-Town Nutrition’s delicious protein shakes. The perfect place for a coffee date and crepes is Black Sheep where the atmosphere is the best part. Dominics Pizza is next door and will deliver to you if you want to stay at Black Sheep and enjoy a margarita or specialty drink. I could stay there all day! Mary’s Mountain Cookies across the street has the best dessert options and service. If we get a wild hair and are up for drinks and karaoke, we’d stop at Spirits Music Hall. If we need to recover in the morning, we’d hit The Drip Bar to nurse us back to health and do it all over again!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Blissness, formerly NoCo Powerhouses, is a ladies networking group in Northern Colorado that is very near and dear to my heart. It has been said that this group, “is like a warm hug” and I eagerly look forward to the monthly meetings. Most of these ladies are also moms and entrepreneurs. They have all been so loving, motivating, supportive, and have encouraged me to start my own business. Amy Tallent is the organizer of Blissness and I couldn’t have done this without her and all of her support! A quote that I admire is “Behind every successful woman is a tribe of other successful women who have her back.” These boots can do anything with these ladies and their support behind me. A huge thank you to my husband, daughter, family, and friends who have all cheered for me along the way!
