We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Langlois and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebecca, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
While I wouldn’t identify as someone who is risk-averse, I prefer to take calculated risks. I never thought of myself as an entrepreneur until recently, and I would say I jumped off the cliff by starting two businesses within the past three years. I started Long’s Peak Candle Co. at the beginning of September 2022 and incorporated Bijou Creek Performance Horses in July 2019. I work full-time in addition to owning the two businesses, and I am also in the process of finishing a doctorate in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University through an online program.

Risk is the key to staying energized about life for me. I enjoy the challenges that come with owning your own business, and I especially appreciate being able to take credit for my success. Not everyone likes the uncertainty or risk that is associated with owning a business, let alone two, but for me, it is incredibly rewarding.

What should our readers know about your business?
Long’s Peak Candle Co. is in the very early stages of being a company as we officially started in September 2022. Thankfully, I have prior business knowledge from running my other company for the past three years, so I’ve applied a lot of what I learned in that process to this new enterprise. As with anything worth pursuing, it’s been a work of heart getting this business off the ground. I had to invest in the necessary equipment and supplies to be able to produce candles, the packaging materials to ship the products, and cover shipping and administrative costs upfront. My initial investment was about $1000, and I’ve been able to recoup those expenses reasonably quickly thanks to the website platform I chose to use and the marketing tools available through the site.

Long’s Peak Candle Co. came about from a love of being creative, the mountains, and our way of life here in Colorado. I enjoy all things outdoors, our beautiful Rocky Mountains, and I’m blessed to wake up and see Long’s Peak right out my windows every day. I want to share all the greatness of Colorado with people around the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Long’s Peak Candle Co. is based out of Longmont, Colorado, which is an idyllic town located in Boulder County. We are minutes from the mountains, incredible lakes, and the thriving city of Denver. I love living in Longmont because of the shopping, restaurants, and outdoor activities that are available here year-round. My favorite restaurant in town is a tie between The Post Chicken and Beer, which offers terrific fried chicken and a great selection of Colorado-proud brewery beers, and The Roost, which offers a fantastic selection of small plate options along with robust craft cocktail offerings. Downtown Longmont is host to many small retailers and restaurants, and in the summer, there are many festivals and downtown concerts. Longmont is a great town and I highly recommend visiting!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is dedicated to my family. My husband, Jason, and my son, Caden, provide me with limitless support to pursue my dreams. The past few years have been hectic and at times, crazy, but our family unit provides the necessary stability and comfort I need to be able to be creative and resourceful which I need to be to run my businesses.
