We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Todd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work life balance is one of the main reasons that I am an entrepreneur. I really value time spent with my family and the flexibility of my schedule. I have a 2.5 year old daughter and I’m due with my second baby any day now. Being able to create my own schedule and be with my family is really invaluable. We were not put on this earth to work ourselves to death. Having a healthy work like balance is crucial to being an entrepreneur, and it is one of the biggest benefits.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have had my commercial photography business for 10 years. It is a huge accomplishment to keep a small business open for that long. I have steadily grown over the years and now have contract photographers that help me cover certain photo shoots. Business always has its ups and downs, and the best way to conquer this is to surround yourself with other like minded entrepreneurs. They will know the hustle and support you. Also, focus on your mental and physical health. You can’t run a business without that.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado has so many amazing spots to visit. I would definitely recommend exploring the mountains. Hiking and camping are my favorite things to do. The mountain towns of Salida, Golden, Creede and Steamboat Springs are my favorite. Get out and enjoy how peaceful nature is.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I want to just give some love to myself! I know that might sound strange, but whenever business gets tough you always tend to be hardest on yourself. I’ve learned ways to cope with this and to not give up. I try to keep the negative thoughts at bay and not compare myself to others.
It also helps to have a great support group. My family, friends and entrepreneur network has always lifted me up and encouraged me. I could not have done this business for 10 years without my support group.
