We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebekah Lavender and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebekah, how do you think about risk?
As a former mathematics major who spent many hours calculating probabilities and risk, to the person I am now who has moved twice in 3 years to places I’ve never even visited, risk is an interesting word. I think that most people live their lives not taking enough risks. However, I’d say also not all things are worth risking or taking a risk for.

When I started creating content on Instagram with my dogs, I honestly didn’t have a plan for the page. I just thought my dogs were cute? But, during the pandemic I bought a camera and I never looked back. Taking that risk and starting an Instagram page when I wasn’t even sure what I was doing helped me discover passions for things like photography, dog training, travel, and content creation that I wouldn’t have discovered otherwise. It’s also led to many great friendships with people I never would have met if it wasn’t for Instagram.

In the words of Randy Komisar, “And then there is the most dangerous risk of all — the risk of spending your life not doing what you want on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later.” I try to live by that quote and hopefully inspire others to as well through my page.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
While my main job involves being a Scientific Sales rep for a company here in Colorado Springs, in my free time I work on building the social media presence for the brand I created with my dogs on Instagram and TikTok.

I am probably most proud of how far I’ve come with learning to create content and hone my photography skills. Looking back to the pictures I took a year ago vs today, you can’t even tell the same person took them. I could say the same thing about content creation. I wouldn’t necessarily say that creating content is hard, but it definitely is something that takes perseverance and continued learning. So many people think that if you take pretty pictures or have cute pets people will automatically follow your pages or brands will automatically want to work with you, but there is a lot more that goes into it than that.

I hope that when people see our page it makes them want to go outside and explore and travel. I hope we are able to inspire people to explore the world and take risks. At the end of the day, we aren’t guaranteed a certain number of days so I think making the most of the time we have is important.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly there are so many amazing places in Colorado that it is hard to choose. I spend most of my free time hiking so I’d say definitely if the weather permitted I’d take them to hike Mayflower Gulch and Silver Dollar and Murray Lake. Id also take them to see some of the beautiful mountain towns like Crested Butte and Georgetown with are all within 4 hours of the springs. In the Springs, Cheyenne mountain has great hiking as well.

For a drink, in Colorado Springs, we love Boxing Brothers Cider. For food, you can’t miss the Denver Biscuit Co or going to one of the many cute restaurants in Old Colorado City.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
