We had the good fortune of connecting with Rian Hidalgo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rian, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Honestly, it started as a way for me to release all my feelings and emotions about life onto a platform that would help me to process everything. It began as a blog and then I decided to turn it into a podcast when I realized that there were other people that could benefit from thoughts and learn things with me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started this journey about 6 years ago when I first started writing my blog, rainydaybyday. It was just a passion project really. As well as a form of therapy for myself. It has not been easy to stay consistent or motivated over the years, especially with everything else going on in my life, mainly school. However, I noticed that my own mental health was a lot better when I prioritized focusing on my creative passion of helping others (and myself) through my podcast. It also has been hard to feel like I am making any sort of difference because I haven’t gone viral and I don’t have hundreds of followers. However, my thought behind it all, and really just anything I’m passionate about sharing is that if I can help even just one person feel seen and heard than it is worth doing. I want everyone to know that my podcast is designed to be a safe space. It is not scripted or clinical in any way. It is very raw and real and my random thoughts at that moment. My favorite part about my podcast is that I ask at the beginning of each episode how my listeners’ hearts are. I think oftentimes people ask how we are doing and we don’t necessarily feel comfortable enough to answer truthfully. So, I want to create a space before each of my episodes that gives the listeners time to reflect inwards and check in with their hearts, to see how they are really doing in that moment. Our little feelings help create our big feelings, but we often ignore the smaller feelings. Our hearts are powerful and by checking in on them we are able to get more in tune with ourselves, and in turn with those around us.
I also want everyone to know that I am learning everything that I talk about as I go. I am by no means perfect, and I definitely do not have it all figured out. I think we re stronger together, and I hope to one day have a platform where we can all be imperfect together.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I really haven’t been in Colorado for very long. I was born here in 2003, moved away in 2010, and just moved back this year. However, I go to a university in Washington. Due to this, I don’t have tons of knowledge about places, so if anyone has suggestions I would love to hear them!
My favorite places that I do really like though are:
The Butterfly Pavillion – I held Rosie the tarantula when I was younger and always loved her.
The Denver Botanic Gardens – We visited the Christmas lights there one year, and it is honestly just beautiful all year round.
Bonnie Brae’s – The ice cream is super yummy!
Devil’s Food Bakery – If you love chai, their lavender chai is delicious! Plus, if you go to their restaurant extension they have super yummy breakfast food.
Wash Park or Cheesman Park – Both are fabulous parks that are perfect for all activities whether you just want to sit and read in the shade, take a long walk, or anything in between.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout should be dedicated to my mom. She is a marriage and family therapist and she has always helped me figure out ways to process my emotions and feelings that are comfortable and safe for me. I also think her guidance in understanding that sensitivity isn’t a bad thing has also helped propel me on this journey of wanting to help others feel less alone.
