We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricky Perry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ricky, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Consistency with the craft.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Over the years my interest in choreography has evolved. I started out just teaching and performing, hoping to one day create choreography for top tier artist on tour. Now I have somehow stepped in the lane to wanting to create choreography for film. My most recent accomplishment is that one of my projects, “Play-Doh”, was selected to be apart of a dance film festival. Not only was this my first one attending but now I feel my work is worthy enough to be put in conversations when talking about film to like-minded artist.
Im a firm believer in manifestation so I didn’t take no for an answer. Even though it was the first answer I heard when I submitted countless projects to all types of film festivals. Iv learned consistency is key. Putting in the work over and over and you’re bound to accomplish whatever it is that may be.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
All of my friends visit me in Colorado so the first word out their mouth is “mountains”. So after breakfast, I do the honor in taking them to see some nice views. Once that’s done I’ll take them to an art exhibit. The most recent one built in Denver is Meow Wolf. There is also one is Las Vegas so if you haven’t had a chance to go I recommend it. More food obviously in the itinerary but my favorite spot right now is HuHut Grill. Huge fan of stir fry and that fact that its buffet style/all you can eat, is an automatic no brainer.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Aside from my family and friends, Im fortunate enough to say that’s a given for me, the support I receive from within the dance community I have surrounded myself around lets me know Im doing something that’s impacting lives in a joyful way. My dance collegues and I are always encouraging each other to express that creative outlet to the best of our ability.
