We had the good fortune of connecting with Riley Fedel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Riley, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I think taking risks is vital. Risk taking is something that sets a business owner apart from the rest. You have to be able to show you can go out on a limb and also be able to find the right solutions if everything blows up! If I didn’t ignore that little voice telling me everything is going to fall apart, and get out there and start to build a business, I wouldn’t be where I am.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create art in the form of hair color and hair extensions and I’m most proud of the custom techniques of created. I got here by pushing through and learning new things when I thought it would help my craft. When I see a new method of doing things that aligns with my brand, I’ve gone out and learned everything I can about that so I can continue to make niche specialties within my own craft. It wasn’t always easy, there’s always people that will try and get in your way, and also, funding can be an issue when you’re completely independent. For me, I’ve had to just listen to my own judgement and push through even when I don’t have a lot of support.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh my, well I’ve been all over the world and I will always come back to Denver because I think it is such an amazing city! If I had a friend in town for a week, I would start the morning off by getting pastries at Good Bread on East Colfax. From there, we can go out to Morrisson and get a hike in. Then we can come back down to the city and hit up the Pearl Street Farmers Market if it’s a Sunday. We could go to Meowolf as a midday activity. Try to snag reservations at Wolf’s Tailor and of course end the night at a Red Rocks show. Some other things we could do through the week: A Lagree class as Fierce 45, laying out in Cheesman Park, antique shopping on South Broadway. The best dinner spots include: A5, Kawa Ni, El Five, Lo Stella, Noisette, Bamboo Sushi, and many more!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my mother! From letting me practice crazy techniques on her when I was a baby hairstylist to being the biggest supporter in my career.
