Meet Riley Schmelzer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Riley Schmelzer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Riley, is there something you believe many others might not?
I find that more often than not, successful people will tell others to stick to a script or structure that has worked in the past. I do not find this to be good advice, and while I understand why one would suggest this, I find that working on your own path with your own ideas and tendencies will allow you to become successful in a brand new way. It is far more difficult to do it this way, and most people will tell you it is not possible, but if you make your own ideas work in the way that other successful ideas have, then you will stand out because it is unique and new, with your originality. It’s also important to know that it shouldn’t be about standing out, but instead to embrace that special thing.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I created the band No Signal. It is difficult to pinpoint a genre as we are doing our own thing, but it is often referred to as alternative rock, or rock. The process of getting to where are now has been unconventional and quite interesting. The most difficult part of it kins to what I said earlier, in that what I am doing is something that is brand new. Luckily, as time passes by, more and more people are beginning to understand it. I don’t talk much about what exactly the ideas are anymore, and instead have simply been executing them, and showing them once they are ready to be seen. For those who are interested, we hope you will join us and see what I am talking about.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I do not go out much haha. I find optimal comfort in solitude, or with a select few people who I have grown close to. I like to go on drives. There is one area many miles north-east of Boulder, specifically a cliff-edge, with close to 180 degrees of astounding lush mountain views. Occasionally I will bring a friend to this spot and we will sit there – either in silence or in conversation – observing the motion and happenings of the area. I always encourage people to go exploring outside of the populated areas, I do love the city and the activity, but I think it is good and productive to spend time elsewhere; whatever their reasoning may be.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My father Richard Schmelzer, a brilliant inventor, producer, and musician. Local band In Plain Air as well.
