We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Schneider and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robin, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I feel it is having a genuine love for what you do. I love the arts, photography and helping others so it has transpired naturally for me to be a professional photographer, a curator and a manager of the arts and galleries. I realized a while back that if I put the same effort or energy into my dreams as I was working on someone else’s dream or corporate work, I could actually make a living doing my own. A big mistake I see in most is they don’t treat their own business with the same respect they want from the businesses they shop at. Your effort and self discipline is key to making things grow. The bigger the effort the bigger the growth. Don’t just work eight hours a day on your dream. Spend every waking moment trying to find a way to do it better. The energy you spend is an investment in yourself.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My own art is mostly photography and you know its my work when you see it. After cancer treatment I see things different. Colors are more vibrant, lights are brighter, and creative angles or composition is much more natural for me. I wasn’t a photographer until then. I hardly ever used a camera. But I was a creative, I painted, I sketched, I built things. I had to give all that up as treatment would nearly kill me. Once I became healthy enough to walk for more than just a few feet I became restless. I wanted more but wasn’t feeling like I wanted the mess of cleaning brushes and such. So I grabbed a camera and went for a walk to a small nature area and took some pictures. When I got home and put them on the computer, it was obvious I had captured much more than just a landscape scene. I had captured a feeling. The cold, the snow, and the peace of that winter day. Art needs to touch your soul, make your heart race, or make your mind wonder. Since then I have went on to photograph everything from rock stars to race cars, weddings and babies. There is almost never a day that I don’t practice either behind the camera or the computer with editing. It has become my life’s work capturing the legacy of others.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When people come to visit me the 1st place I take them is the top of Pikes Peak. There is a train ride you can take or drive up in your own car. The views are amazing! And the whole drive or ride is beautiful either way. Next is Garden of the Gods but if you get the chance you can sneak back to Glen Eyrie Castle and usually see the rams headbutting each other, its majestic! I’m always a huge fan of going to the art galleries, but I’m also in love with hiking a trail and finding a quiet place to hang a hammock and relax. There are those moments when laying in a hammock, smoking a nice cigar and doing nothing, seems like everything!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One thing for sure is you cant do it alone. Its not enough to be noticed, but you need to be noticed by the right people. I have found that helping others rise to the top with you builds a strong foundation of support that helps make reaching your own goals easier. Once I heard that you are the average of the five people you hang 0ut with the most. It’s your reputation that is on the line so make sure these people are positive and supporting. Surround yourself with great people that are doing amazing things. It will inspire you to reach a higher level and do more. I have too many great people in my life to mention them all. My children, my mom, my dad who has passed, lord knows I talk with him when things are hard. My friends are incredible! This list just keeps growing because people want to be around people that can inspire and help them accomplish their dreams as well. A positive attitude, some kindness and being genuinely grateful will ensure you rise to the top.
