Meet Rodrigo Levél | visual artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rodrigo Levél and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rodrigo, what do you attribute your success to?
Since my first steps in art, I have always been very restless in my creative process. I was always open to experiments, tests, which made me feel alive and playing an important role as an artist in society.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I, like many children, loved to play and fantasize scenarios through my drawings, but I never imagined that those “simple” creations could fly to greater horizons, and that’s when I had the opportunity to discover Graffiti on the walls of my neighborhood and it was love at first sight . I began to imagine everything I created taking shape on the walls and that’s how it all started. It wasn’t an easy path, as Graffiti in the 90’s was still something very marginal and we had many problems to be able to paint. But with the bet of some art galleries bringing graffiti into their exhibition spaces, everything started to change and with that my mind also woke up to a new look at art, so that’s how I started to explore more, leaving the traditional graffiti letters to understand other artistic expressions that he believed he could explore.
The difficulties to continue with art were innumerable as most South American artists suffer, problems with bad materials and high values, many stood out in creating ways to create exploring in an incredible way even with such difficulties, making the South American artist stand out on the world stage.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I currently live in the south of Brazil, on an island called Florianópolis, an island surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, but also a place to eat and I eat a good foodie, naturally the local gastronomy would be a good address for that !

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
During these 24 years of art, I had many people who crossed or walked for a moment and still walk together until today, and in fact the relationship with all these people from different cultures helped a lot in building my career. I live in a big country like Brazil and multicultural and this contributes even more for this to happen.
