We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabrina Dvorak and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sabrina, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Remembering my “why.” There were so many times I was terrified starting up the business. While off with my daughter for maternity leave I heard someone quote, “if not now, when?” I thought, yeah, but its during a pandemic and I have a 6 month old baby! Maybe later! I need a regular income, I need insurance and honestly I needed sleep! That quote stuck with me though, “if not now, when?” WHY did I want to start my own business? I wanted to schedule work around my daughters schedule, not try and see her when I was done working 9-5pm. I wanted to be able to work from anywhere in the world using telemedicine (thanks covid!). I wanted to find my own creativity in my practice by using my first hand experience NEEDING functional medicine, then showing others how to reverse their chronic illness. Remembering my “why” kept me strong mentally and Evolution Health Consulting flourished!

What should our readers know about your business?
FUNctional Medicine! FUN because we reverse chronic illness and people get better. FUNCTIONAL because we get your body back to where if functions best by looking for the root cause of disease.

Imagine a space where you are able to be one on one with your provider and truly be listened to. A space where you could feel supported, guided and respected! A space where we continue to look for the reason WHY you have symptoms vs just treating the symptoms with medications. This is Functional Medicine.

I have always been interested in holistic therapies to regain or prevent health related issues. As a RN I worked in the ICU and pre and post surgical areas. I continued to see people get more sick over time. I wanted a more preventative role, so I decided to go to nurse practitioner school. About half way through school I almost quit. How were 15 minute appointments, basic lab testing and prescriptions for symptoms preventative??? I never had time to discuss diet, lifestyle, gut health and stress reduction. It was get them in and get them out. I stuck with it and graduated, then, I got sick!

I started having gut issues, the gut issues led to extreme brain fog. I was always in pain. I had every test, I saw my pcp, the GI doctors many times and even had home health. No one could tell me what was going on. Finally I made a functional medicine doctor appointment. We tested my immune system and my inflammation markers were off the charts. We looked at my genetics and found I was unable to detox mold! I had been exposed to a home with mold six months before. They quickly put me on medication to eliminate the mold and viola! No more symptoms, every single one I had was gone. Actually, I had never felt better in my life!

I find mold illness as a root cause of many of my patients symptoms. Mold can cause something simple like acne, to autoimmune, gut issues, brain fog, fatigue, MS, Parkinson’s, cancer and sometimes death.

I believe I was meant to treat people using functional medicine. My experience with my health has helped thousands of patients regain their health and feel their best.

As a Nurse Practitioner, I love being able to combine holistic and natural therapies with western medicine. What a perfect combination!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the state of Colorado! If the Nuggets were playing then that would be stop #1. Go Nuggets! Definitely need a sporting event to start off the week. Grab some dinner to-go from True Food Kitchen and head to City park Jazz festival with a swan boat night ride. Everyone needs more music in their life, next up Red Rocks!! Then it would be time to head to Salida and partake in some mountain river festivals. Nothing tops Mount Princeton Hot Springs. We would spend a few days there to recharge and soak it in. Then I would introduce my friend to my favorite realtor because we know they would want to move here!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
How many people, times and places can I recognize here? 😉

We could start as early as my Grandmother and her use of vitamins, supplements, massage, and acupuncture on us when we were small. With my Mother, taking us to the chiropractor when we needed some help with our bodies during high school athletics. My sister, my father and stepdad for believing in me and trusting me with their health. For many people along the way that would say, “you should own your own business, I’d work for you!” My friend, Abbey, who went with me to my first functional medicine consultation when I wasn’t feeling well, then introduced me to the Institute of Functional Medicine courses. To my behind the scene business team consisting of a high school DECA state champion, Becca, then a furloughed mother during covid, Lisa. Finally, my amazing frontline team consisting of a functional diagnostic nutritionist, Arlene and my amazing Certified Health and Wellness coach, Kim! THANK YOU!
