Meet Samantha Marzarella | Crochet Designer & Small Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Marzarella and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My grandma taught me how to crochet as a child, forever sending me home with yarn and a hook to help set a creative foundation for me. It hadn’t stuck with any of the grandkids before me, but she finally got lucky with me, the youngest. I fell out of touch with crochet for quite a while through my teenage years and on, but when my grandma started to decline, I knew I needed to carry on her legacy. I picked it back up and challenged myself to create clothing rather than just blankets. My full time job was in the service industry, but I started daydreaming about what it would be like to weave my creations for others and make a living out of it. Covid hit & I had extra time and money, so I poured it into Love Woven Threads LLC and I couldn’t be more proud with the fact that I followed my dream and made it a reality!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a piece of my heart. Having the opportunity to weave creations up from my brain, through my hands and into a finalized product which eventually ends up in someone else’s home is the wildest thing for me! Being able to express myself through crochet and share my creations with people from all over the country is a constant adrenaline rush that continuously propels me forward. The challenges of starting my own business have built a thicker skin for me and taught me valuable lessons along the way. I learned that you need to PLAN. Not everything can be done in a day, and your excitement won’t speed up the technical side of things, which is just as important as the creation itself. Balancing the technical side of being a small business owner with the creative side is the key!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend was in town, my perfect itinerary would be: Brunch and Bloody Mary pitchers at The District, thrifting down South Broadway, heading up to Westminster to visit the Butterfly Pavilion, Meow Wolf, drink some coffee and hang out with cats at the Cat Cafe, Skylark for some pool, Watercourse Foods, hit some local parks, get a burrito at Illegal Pete’s!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My grandma, hands down! She is the sole reason that Love Woven Threads exists today and I’ll forever crochet in her legacy. Through her patience with teaching me the basics, to her support as I picked it back up later in life, making her spirit proud is the motivating factor behind my small business.
