Meet Samantha Thompson | Fitness Trainer, Yoga Instructor & Joy Seeker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Getting sober and starting my own healing journey. My daughter was already 15 years old when I got sober, so there were already some generational patterns and behaviors being passed down. I’ve been open about my recovery with her from the beginning and it allowed for a lot of conversations to happen and I believe gave us the opportunity to change the trajectory of our family legacy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My crossover into the fitness industry as a trainer/instructor is a recent shift. I am in the beginning stages of starting my own business and as someone who struggles with perfectionism, it has been a lot of hard work to shift my mindset from “it has to be perfect” and “I have to get it right” to a space of being okay with being new and adapting new mantras such as “messy and done is better than perfect and never” and my favorite “there is no failure, just data points of what worked and what didn’t”. Being humble and teachable is key, I am grateful to have had coaches/mentors help me see things from a different perspective.
For me, our health is not only about the physical body, it is also the mental and spiritual elements. We are complex beings, and while each of these layers are unique, they cannot be separated in our wholeness as humans. When we get stronger in one area, we get stronger in the others. While the physical fitness is the main focus of my business, I hope to impart my clients with some practices they can take into the rest of their lives, whether it’s taking a moment to be in gratitude or realizing they can do harder things in the gym than they thought and maybe they can succeed at the harder things in their personal lives too.
My mission is to inspire my clients to look at their health more holistically, mind, body and spirit. There are hard days and there will be set backs and together we can work through them finding the next step on the path to Keep Moving Forward.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in a rural town on the Western Slope, some of my favorite must see places are the Colorado Monument, the Black Canyon, and Lost Lake. We have quite the smorgasbord of local restaurants, Espresso Paonia and a fresh bakery item from Mountain Oven is always a great way to start the day, and we must stop by Crunch Waffle, Nido, Hungry Bird Pizza and any pop-up with Chef Joe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh gosh, so many! First and foremost, without God, none of this would be possible, he rescued me from the depths of my despair and destruction. He has given me everything I need and put all the right people in my path to begin healing. One day at a time, he has given me the strength to keep moving forward in my journey. Ellen, Jeri & Claire continually inspire me to dream big dreams and take the action to see them through, I steal courage from them all the time. Carolyn, Melissa, Sam & Eric are fuel to my fire, they cheer and encourage me to keep going, especially when I am full of fear and doubt.
Fitwerks of Yukon, OK and CrossFit RWOL in Mustang, OK have greatly influenced my love for fitness and helped shape my ideas for my business.
My coaches/mentors, Sharon, Kristen, Nick, Ande & Julie have helped me see things in a new light, they have shared their wisdom and insight with love and kindness and sometimes much needed brutal honesty.
