We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sara, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
For me the end goal of my career as a photographer and videographer is to make beautiful art that connects with people. The process of creating has always been what keeps me inspired. While the finish product of something I make is so rewarding, I think it’s the creation of it that drives me. In this line of work (family photography) I get to explore short stories of people’s lives and make art with those stories. In the end it’s connecting those two pieces together to make beautiful work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I photograph and film families for a living. To actually describe my art that way makes me so happy. I get to do this for a living? People trust me with their most precious memories and I take that pretty seriously. I started photographing people eleven years ago and the learning process has never ended for me. There is always something I can do to grow as an artist and I truly love the process and evolving. Making art comes very naturally to me but the business side has been a learning curve. I have my husband to thank for helping me thrive as a business owner. I see my business as ever evolving as I change personally. Right now I am really inspired to make family films. I’ve always admired to art of storytelling. And I’ve found my way of telling them. I am drawn to create meaningful work with photographs and films. I love the way it feels when I am able to combine my vision and someone’s story in an artistic way.

I truly believe when kindred spirits come together to celebrate a similar passion something very powerful takes place. Together we teach each other how to see in a new way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d start week the day going to Wash Park, eating lunch at Perdida Kitchen. I’m both a nature lover and a foodie so throughout the week I’d take my bestie up to Evergreen and Breckenridge for a beautiful hike, explore Red Rocks and eat at Quality Italian, Cherry Cricket, Sushi Den, Guard and Grace, Borolo Grill, Los Dos Portrillos just to name a few favorites. I’d take her to explore downtown Littleton (one of the cutest spots around Denver!) and you can’t miss the Botanical Gardens in Denver.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people have helped me see art as both a driving force in my life and as an avenue for career opportunity. When I was learning the fundamentals of photography I took a workshop from commercial photographer Zoe Berkovic who taught me how to see life as art and how to properly set up a business. She was my first mentor and I have always admired her unique voice. The book Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert was also a wonderful teaching tool that taught me to embrace my creativity as if my life depended on it. When you have a desire to create, to make art, to connect with something bigger than yourself you have to be willing to do the work and allow that to become part of your daily life.
