Meet Sarah Keeker | Owner & Lead Planner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Keeker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I first started my business 15 years ago I worked every day of the week. Took client meetings, gave tours, and replied to emails. That was necessary to get both of my businesses going in the beginning. As I began to get have kids I set boundaries so I could spend more time with them. Now I am able to not take client meetings on weekends or outside of business hours. I do still reply to emails 7 days a week because it’s easier for me to stay on top of things then get behind. I do also get my kids off the bus 4 days a week. This does mean I end up working after they go to bed most nights but it’s totally worth the trade off to spend more time with them.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Growing my business to the place it is now has taken a lot of hard, consistent work but it’s been fun too. A lot of vendors come and go in this industry so I think showing up consistently for clients and fellow vendors helps set you apart. I’ve done that for 15 years and I think that’s a lot of what has grown and sustained my business. I think I stumbled into weddings but that at my heart I love customer service and sales. I think I excel at cultivating and sustaining client and vendor relationships.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d start with brunch at Patachou in the village of Zionsville where I live. Then we’d wander little shops on main street. There’s everything from clothes to home goods to find. We’d spend half a day at Newfields to see the current galleries and flowers in bloom in the gardens. We’d spend another day downtown walking along the canal and eating at Bluebeard for dinner. Lastly, we’d wander Broad Ripple. Eat lunch at Napolese, coffee at Hubbard & Cravens, and hopefully see a show or basketball game at Butler.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My friend Cassie Conforti helped me with the idea to start my business. She is an incredible wedding photographer. She owns Conforti Photography. She helped me come up with the name, with my initial branding, has taken countless head shots for me, and is always a great sounding board for new ideas or issues over the years.
