We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Morrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I started my business for everyone who has ever felt stuck, gaslighted by traditional healthcare, or like they’ve tried everything to get over whatever is holding them back without success. I’ve been that person that all the doctors gave up on, who felt weak for not being able to manage my stress and trauma as well as everyone else’s, who felt totally alone in my struggles.

Our traditional healthcare and societal idea of ‘healing’ likes quick fixes, treating symptoms, and seeing the mind and body as separate entities. But anyone who has ever experienced chronic stress or anxiety, complex pain or illness, trauma, or addiction knows that is not true. It took me 32 years into my own healing journey from caregiver burnout, perfectionism, body-image and disordered eating issues, an immune deficiency, gut disorders, and trauma for someone to explain to me that mind and body do actually affect each other and I’m not alone and I can actually heal. Every human is a combination of unique and highly interconnected systems. In order to function properly, we have to treat and understand ourselves as such, rather than how traditional ‘healing’ modalities see us as a bunch of separate parts without a soul or spirit.

At The Nervous System Spa I fill this gap between traditional healthcare and true healing. I LISTEN, I SEE the big picture, I UNDERSTAND that mental health is physical health is spiritual health. I’m never going to tell you to just put a bandaid on a gaping wound, or that you just need to lose some weight, or none of your symptoms make sense so there’s nothing else we can do for you, or that you should just try to relax. By viewing these complex and chronic issues as nervous system dysregulation, I can see how things make sense and guide people to deep holistic healing and release even when the traditional system failed them.

My other hope is to fill the gap between isolation and community in healing with tons of group wellness offerings, collaborating with other like-minded practitioners, and donating time to the community. I know first-hand how isolating and scary feeling stuck in pain, trauma, illness, stress, and addiction can be. The most healing thing in my life has been finding community and support in others. We don’t get to have that in traditional healthcare very often.

Lastly, I want to fill the gap between Science and “Woo Woo”. As science evolves, we continue to see more and more value in what traditional healthcare still considers “woo woo” like reiki, meditation, manifestation, sound vibrations, and energy balancing. Heck, we used to think that the world was flat and that simple positive thinking was a bunch of hooey! Now we know that meditation works because of quantum physics and somatics work because of polyvagal theory and my evidence-based homeostatic neuro-trigger points in bodywork overlap almost exactly with energy meridians and acupressure points. Just because our science hasn’t fully caught up to every detail of every healing modality yet, doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. We have plenty of evidence to the contrary.

So I hope to bridge gaps to healing with the nervous system, with community, and with continual openness to learning. I don’t want others to have to fight the fight I did to heal and just live their freaking lives.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At The Nervous System Spa, we help people heal the root of stubborn pain, stress, trauma, illness, and addiction even when they feel stuck or like they’ve tried everything. As a Nervous System Specialist, I use mind-body modalities including Trauma-Informed Bodywork and Breathwork, Integrative Neurological Needling, Somatic Experiencing, Reiki/Energy Healing, Essential Oil Symphony of Cells Protocols, NeuroFitness, Neurolinguistics, and NeuroShine Technology Coaching to help people live their best lives and overcome whatever is keeping them stuck. My Spa Partners specialize in Sound Healing, Massage, Yoga, and Personalized IV Therapy. We even have an Ice Bath Cold Plunge and Infrared Sauna! All of these healing treatments are trauma-informed, focused on nervous system regulation, and accepting of all humans (and creatures says Dogtor Skyebear, my snuggly assistant). Whether you have a chronic condition, crippling anxiety, or want your spa day relaxation to stick longer than a couple of hours, we got you.

It’s been a long road to get here filled with several amusement park’s worth of twists and turns and drops and climbs. I’m grateful for where I am now and for the beautiful people (and doggos) around me. I’m grateful to get to help people overcome the same things I’ve struggled with by using the same techniques and strategies that healed me. Vulnerability breeds vulnerability. Laughter is the best medicine. Community is healing.

I want everyone to know that they are not only welcome, but celebrated here at The Nervous System Spa. I am working to make healing available to everyone, whether it’s in 1:1 sessions, therapeutic group classes, transformative retreats, virtual coaching, or donation-based community events. Everyone deserves and is worthy of healing.

Embrace Your Strength. Find Your Belonging. Build Your Resilience.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely go paddleboarding and hiking around Georgetown, tubing in Clear Creek, and stroll around Olde Town Arvada. We would have to grab some Kava and hopefully a Cacao Ceremony at The Karma House where all the cool kids hang out. Hit a yoga class or dance workout at Vibe Gym. Soundbath with Soundwave Sacrament.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Ohhhhh my I have so many shoutouts! Community has been extremely healing and inspired so much of my story and business. I thank my therapist, Lily. She is truly a magical unicorn and has taught me so much about mind-body connection and giving myself the same kindness I give to others.
Props to The Karma House, Vibe Gym & Wellness, and Symmetry Collective here in Denver for giving me safe spaces to grow where I finally feel like I belong rather than have to fit in.
Also, Brene Brown and Glennon Doyle podcasts and books that empowered me to start to love myself and leave behind what no longer serves me, as well as say F*ck the patriarchy 🙂
Lastly, but most importantly, my best friend Dogtor Skye who I would not be here without.
