We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Roshan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I feel like I’ve always been a risk-taker. I make decisions fast, but still thoughtfully. I think it is both why I’ve been so successful. Some risks work out and some do not. I always say “I’ve wasted money on stupider things” and it’s true most likely to most risks I take. Sometimes you just have to jump and find your wings on the way up.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of the Sarah Roshan Collective, specializing in Romantic Outdoor Weddings for Gracious Couples. We provide an unmatched experience for couples on their wedding day, paired with clean, crisp, and true-to-life images. We firmly believe that the art should stand on its own in terms of how the images are composed and photographed, ensuring that the client’s images are timeless. I refer to us as interactive photojournalists, which is somewhat of an oxymoron that I coined. Photojournalists, by definition, do not interact with their subjects, but it is our job to tell the most authentic story possible while also making sure that you look your best.
Additionally, I own Emerge Event Collective, an interactive and experience-based wedding and event collective (networking group) for high-end and luxury professionals. Our once-a-month online events, as well as our signature experience-based events, provide a unique platform for professionals in the wedding and event industry. I often refer to it as the “Events and Adventures” for wedding and event professionals. At Emerge, we believe in supporting the person behind the business and that forming genuine human connections is the key to creating the best possible business relationships.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I were to stay and show people around Breckenridge and surrounding areas for a week I probably would choose the summer. While I am a little bit of a ski bum at heart, the summers in Breckenridge have so much to offer.
I’d definitely make a stop at some of our favorite hikes around the area, showing them all our secret spots and iconic ones like Sapphire Point and Mohawk, and Blue Lakes Trail Head.
My favorite restaurants include Aurum, The Breckenridge Distillery, and Flip Side so we’d definitely make those happen sometime during the week.
The rest of the week would probably be a mix of Mountain Biking, White Water Rafting, Horseback Riding, Fly Fishing, and maybe a spa day.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There were individuals who believed in me from the start and gave me the freedom to pursue my ideas and dreams. My husband is undoubtedly one of those people. In terms of books that have left a lasting impression on me, “Profit First” has been a game-changer for my business mindset. “How to Build a Story Brand,” “The Culture Code,” “The 4-hour Work Week” (still a work in progress), “I Will Teach You to be Rich,” “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up,” and “Big Magic” are some of my favorites.
Early on in my career, I met a business consultant named Jeff Jochum. He taught me the value of specializing, which helped me elevate my business from a hobby to a pursuit that supports my dreams and family. Sam Jacobson and the team at Ideaction Consulting have also played a crucial role in some of my recent successes.
