We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Temple and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting Temple Talismans was really one of self discovery; I have always taught Norse mythology and gods and goddesses to my mythology classes at the high school level, so working Runes and divination into lesson plans was a no-brainer. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I took an Ancestry DNA test and found that I have ancestral roots in Sweden and Norway that I really began to explore my own spirituality and how the use of Runes could impact my practices and the people around me. In studying Runic tradition, I learned that Runic Binds were incredibly powerful and I began making them for people. A friend suggested that I charge people for the work (since I was hand carving Runic Binds into selenite or burning the Binds into wood slices), and my business was born. My hope is that the Binds I create bring some level of comfort or relief or protection to those they’re created for, and that in exploring my own roots and ancestral traditions, I can educate others about Norse/Germanic tribes and their practices, too.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Runic Talismans incorporate an ancient magic– letters of the Runic alphabet combined into a personalized Bind, and then hand-carved into a selenite palm stone– and are charge by the full moon to bring the bearer fortune in life. Talismans may be created to bring luck in prosperity, health, wealth (including physical, mental, and spiritual health), improved relationships, self-esteem… you name it; I can create a customized Runic symbol for anyone.

In addition to the talisman itself, Runic Binds are accompanied by information on the symbol and its creation, hemp twine to help its bearer activate the rune and set intentions, as well as instructions to properly manifest Runic magic.

No two talismans are ever the same! Each symbol created is unique and never repeated. Each item is custom-made to order, and will be charged by the closest full moon.

Many people work with tarot or oracle cards, but learning how to cast and understand runes is a lifelong process– Odin hung on a tree for nine days and sacrificed his eye to learn the magic of the Runes and to bring that magic to the human world and he was the All-Father– there’s no way to really “master” runes! I think that is what makes the practice both challenging and rewarding at the same time. As the world evolves and grows, and as people exert free will, my understanding of the runes will continue to shift and change and grow as well.

I hope that people understand about Temple Talismans that one’s history need not be tied to the Norse and Germanic tribes to benefit from Runic Binds or learning the magic of Runes. Access to Runic understanding is granted to anyone who seeks to learn and the knowledge is not exclusive to one type of person or another. The beauty of the Norse gods and goddesses is that they’re fallible and have faults like humans do; they demonstrate that we all (as members of the human race) have something to learn about ourselves by practicing lifelong learning, which promotes connection with others and sharing that learning. The Binds often help us to connect in ways we don’t consider– most of us seek happiness, prosperity, protection of our loved ones, and connections to our ancestors. Temple Talismans seeks to highlight that we have a lot more in common that we think.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone were visiting Colorado for a weekend and I wanted to show them a good time, I might take them to Victor, CO, stay at the Black Monarch and investigate paranormal activity there! If not, we might spend some time in Manitou Springs, take a haunted walking tour, watch the Emma Crawford Coffin Races, check out the Southwest Silver Company for crystals and La Henna Boheme for witchy wares, and then eat something wonderful at Adam’s Mountain Cafe.

For a whole week, I’d try to plot out ALL of the haunted spots (Victor, Cripple Creek, Manitou, Denver, etc.) and hit up all of them in paranormal investigations!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to thank my family and friends for their encouragement and support. I also extend a tremendous amount of gratitude to my clientele; it is their recommendations and referrals that help my business continue to grow. I’d love to thank those teachers who have helped me grow in my spiritual practices, and the wonderful people in my life who like, share, and encourage the business posts on my social media accounts!
