We had the good fortune of connecting with Scarlyt Prewitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scarlyt, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I grew up watching my mom make so many amazing and beautiful one of a kind jewelry and mask pieces. She started to show me how to make jewelry and I fell in love with all the wild and intricate designs we could create. When people would see her work and how their attention would be caught so quickly by all the unique pieces. I was shown how to make one small tail about 6 years ago and ever since I have loved the process of making tails. I hand sew every piece and it takes a long time but I find it most relaxing and therapeutic.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work besides being a small business owner, is also a cashier at a small family owned restaurant that has been amazing to me and very flexible with my schedule and the fact that I’m also a mom and they know my kid comes first. I have days or times when I need to leave early or come in later to take care of my kid and they’re always asking me how my family is doing. I have had many struggles, ups and downs but when I was searching for a job this restaurant hired me on the spot after filling out an application and helped me start work right away.
What I want the world to know about my brand is that I’m always coming up with new business ideas and there are always new treasures to be found in my brand.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Garden of the Gods, see all the trails, balanced rock, stop all the little pull over areas to take photos and climb around. I would take them to the trading post to go sifting in the sand and look for crystals and check all the cool gifts and souvenirs they have to offer. For food and drink I’d take my friend(s) to downtown Manitou Springs for some of the awesome beignets, bar food, and the penny arcade for some fun gaming time. There’s also a bunch of cool little shops around that I would be great for anyone to check out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many people I want to give a shoutout to such as, my mother who introduced me to jewelry making and helped me express my creativeness. I also want to shoutout to my amazing boyfriend, Logen, who helps keep me motivated and is always there to pick me up when I’m down and even gives me ideas for new products and ideas. The other person I want to shoutout to is my best friend, Ruby, who is also a small business owner and we have collaborated our businesses together a couple times and the work is always amazing and sells quickly. She is a wonderful, young artist and extremely creative and always open to new ideas.
