We had the good fortune of connecting with Sebastian Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sebastian, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Well first of all, I wouldn’t say I’ve succeeded. But I do think there’s some habits that every successful person tends to have and that I try to instill myself. One is looking at the big picture. It’s really easy to try to control every single little detail in something you care about which is often helpful but then people forget the big picture. Why are you doing it? Will it matter in the end?
The other habit and my personal motto is just show up. Show up for your friends. Show up for the community. Show up to events. To shows. To reunions. To work meetings. It makes such a huge impression on the people there. Everyone just wants to feel cared about and the easiest and most impactful way to do that is just by showing up for them. It usually results in them showing up for you.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I became a musician by accident. It happened thanks to a lot of help from friends and imposter syndrome. I’ve only been “doing music” for about 6 years or so and I still feel weird calling myself a musician. But once I started, I’ve never wanted to do anything else. It certainly hasn’t been easy and I don’t think it ever will be. Music is such a tough and vulnerable thing to do and it’s only being made tougher by societal changes, AI, streaming services, etc. But I think that human interaction will always be craved. So even as I figure out what my “brand” is, it’ll always be about showing up in an attempt to support or elevate the situation.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ahhh the toughest question yet!
Well my entire personality is coffee and pastries so we’re definitely doing that either at Hooked on Colfax (where I barista sometimes) or Procession Coffee.
Drinks wise we’re only hitting dive bars: Gold Point, hi dive, Skylark.
Food is always the toughest choice cause I’m the least picky person. But my friends always love going to Quiero Arepas in Avanti.
Besides all that, we’re catching some live music since there’s always a show in Denver. Maybe some putt putt at Rino Country Club? These questions always makes me question if I ever do anything at all haha.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s no doubt that my mom is my most influential person in anything I’ve been a part of. She supports it all.
But also my friends, especially in the music community, have been incredibly helpful. There’s been countless people that have given me a chance with almost no basis whatsoever and I couldn’t be more thankful.
Many people are driven by the doubters in their life but trust me it’s way easier to be driven by the people that believe in you.
