We had the good fortune of connecting with Sebastian Terry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sebastian, what principle do you value most?
I believe that goals of the vehicle for change.

After the loss of one of my close childhood friends 15 years ago, I reflected upon my life and evaluated the direction I had taken. Very quickly in this process I realized that I had not been showing up as my best self and fallen short in many aspects of my life that I’d never taken time to consider before.

The loss of my friend offered me the gift of perspective. I realized that if given another a chance at life, I would do it all differently.

With this realization I took a moment to identify core aspects of my life and I wanted to improve. Once I acknowledged the core aspects such as traveling, adventure, personal relationships, giving back to the community, personal development and creativity, I started to create a list of personally relevant goals that I hoped would strengthen these areas.

I committed pen to paper and began jotting down goals and very quickly had found a list of 100Things staring at me in the face. In that moment I decided to drop everything in my life to pursue my list. As I saw it, this is my chance to become happier.

From initially flying to Las Vegas and marrying a stranger (number two) and walking across France (number 36), to delivering a baby (number 23) and even helping a stranger by pushing him in a wheelchair so that he could complete a half marathon (number 26), I found that as I strived for my goals I became a better version of myself.

What happened next was a complete surprise. I found that my journey of 100 THINGS resonated with a global audience of individuals, community groups and organizations. Not just that, but my story was turned into book, multiple documentaries and I’m now invited to speak to businesses around the world about the concepts of purpose, goal setting, building healthy business culture and of course giving back.

It turns out that we’re all the same; we all desire to engage with things of purpose in our lives, in and out of the workplace. We all have an appetite to grow and ultimately we all want to connect with ourselves and then each other.

Years on now from marrying a stranger, 100things has become a movement of people all around the world who set and strive for the most meaningful goals in addition to then sharing those same goals with a larger community. The ripple effect is that people now help one another achieve goals, proving that individual growth leads to collective evolution.

With simple goalsetting, striving and sharing techniques, I’ve seen that whether you’re an individual, a family or even an organization, goals are indeed the vehicle for change.

What should our readers know about your business?
100things is a Corporate wellness and engagement organization, founded upon my own story of creating the worlds most interesting bucket list. Although never intended to be a business, we now see that goalsetting and striving within a like-minded community is in fact the key to individual and collective evolution. From writing books, key noting and now facilitating 12 month wellness programs within large organizations, we’ve seen that building healthy results and improving culture are directly related to healthy processes and communication.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As an Australian now living on Venice Beach in LA, I always take my friends to Malibu for a surf followed by a walking tour through the colorful streets of Venice.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a massive shout out to Chris, my childhood friend who is no longer with us. The way he lived his life inspired my entire journey and I hope that he’s proud of what is transpiring because of him now.
