We had the good fortune of connecting with Shadi Bailey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shadi, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
How pivotal your mindset is to success in your physical goals. Most people in the fitness industry (and particularly gym spaces) are hyper focused on physique changes and very specific body goals — but if we don’t bring attention to our mindset, our thoughts and beliefs around our bodies, then it will be very challenging to achieve those goals, and even more so to maintain them in the long term. Everything starts and ends with mindset.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
While I’ve been coaching in the wellness space for nearly a decade now, I launched Wild Wellness Rebellion, my personal training and mindset + wellness coaching business, in the heart of the pandemic in 2020. At the time, I was on a hiatus from coaching, working various positions at a restaurant. Once lockdown began, I had time to sit down and evaluate where I was at in life and what I wanted to change. I recognized that food and bev was not at all where my heart was, and found it the perfect opportunity to come back to the coaching world. I decided to revamp my entire brand and create something that felt fully aligned to my message and my passions. And thus, Wild Wellness Rebellion was born.
I wanted to create a space in the fitness industry that did not involve hyperfixation on weight, body image, dieting, or putting all of our efforts and energy into making ourselves smaller (in all sense of the word). My intention, then and now, is to empower others to build strong, confident bodies, both inside and out — without the scale, without restriction or limitation. I want to help others heal their relationship with food and their body, to help them find peace and come to love nourishing themselves through movement and intuitive nutrition. I love showing people how they can think out of the box and remove all of the unnecessary noise around what it means to be healthy and fit, helping them figure out what that means to them, individually– and how it doesn’t have to look like what anyone else is doing or promoting.
And no, it was not easy lol. It is an ever evolving space, and I am always shifting and growing and learning along with it. No one tells you how starting a business will trigger every childhood wound you’ve ever had. It took me years of therapy and self reflection to get out of my own way and allow this business to flourish and thrive in the way that it does now. I am so grateful to have had such amazing support from those around me, always encouraging me and affirming my purpose here.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have been in Denver for a little over two years now, and I have not seen nearly enough of this city! One of my favorite areas is the Dairy Block. It’s such a cute area and there are shops, restaurants, bars, often live music and performances as well — what else could you ask for, really?
I also love exploring the speakeasys, the best so far (in my opinion) being B&GC in Cherry Creek.
Red Rocks is a must, of course — if not a hike, then a show at the amphitheater!
Ros Siam for some bomb thai food. Avanti for great drinks and varying food options so that everyone can eat what they like without settling on one cuisine, and a great view of the city.
The Denver Art Museum is always a great experience.
Deer Creek Canyon Park for some of my favorite hiking trails near Denver! Paddleboarding at Chatfield Reservoir.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to: therapy! I would never have made it to where I am today without the help of my therapist, Carla. She helped me to move through the many limiting beliefs that were holding me back from success and bolstered the belief in myself I needed to get there. Also, my clients: those who believed in me from the very beginning, before I fully believed in myself. Lastly, my family (and especially mom), who always encouraged me to be myself and gave me the freedom to live outside of the box of societal norms and expectations.
