We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanah Schaffer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shanah, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
There is a lot of technology out there in todays’ world to help business owners manage and keep track of their finances. However, many of them, while are great at what they do, are not a good at helping people understand the why of things, and can often lead someone to believe they are doing things correctly when they are not. Using a professional to make sure your software systems, procedures, and connections are correctly set up is the key to clean and defensible books and tax returns.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We approach the world of tax and accounting a bit different from other firms. Our goal is to empower our clients to understand the finance side of their business operations, and work together with them to facilitate operational procedures that work for both worlds. We do a lot of training not only on using the software such as QuickBooks correctly, but also on understanding financials, other reporting, and how all of these numbers come together on various tax reporting forms. If you have an interest in being hands-on and gathering a better understanding of how to use these numbers from your business throughout the year, we love to work with and educate our clients! That, along with a stead-fast commitment to timely responses has been able to set us apart from the herd, and has had direct correlation to our success.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the gambling towns of Blackhawk and Central City. There is a little bit for everyone, and an amazing set of views if you go up the canyon. In both towns, in addition to gambling (of course), there is good food, and some very cool historical buildings from the Colorado Gold Rush time. Great Photo ops! If you have time, and nice weather, try to visit some of the amazing mountain towns here. The hike to Hanging Lake in Glenwood Canyon is a once-in-a-lifetime view, and if you are going South, check out the Garden of the Gods or the Royal Gorge. If you are in the City for your trip- Food is the ticket! The Denver Metro area has some amazing old-school and new-kid eateries to tickle the tongue for sure!! If the season is right- try to also check out the Botanical Gardens-one of my lifelong favorites.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My team for sure! I have been truly blessed to have such a caring, talented, and supportive group of professionals for not only myself, but the clients and each other! I was always told the key to success is bringing on team members better and smarter than you, and then learning to listen to them. We have all left our egos at the door, and work together to help each other and out clients build to success and balance in life! I would be nowhere without them!
