We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Demos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shannon, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Before meeting my husband, I had no idea I had an artistic bone in my body. I was creative in the kitchen but never realized that I had talents outside of that in a creative sense. As our relationship grew I started to become interested in art as my husband is a muralist and artist. I started out working with old vinyl records and painting them with acrylic paint pens, and as time went on I became interested in making jewelry. At the time, I was doing this in my free time and selling to friends and family. I think what really jump-started my interest in creating my business was the death of my Step-Father. It was very sudden and unexpected and became a huge catalyst for change in my life. My husband and I moved into our first apartment together and COVID was at its pinnacle. I was unemployed and going to therapy regularly recovering from the passing of what was essentially my second Father. It was this free time and the pain I was working through that was the reason I started my storefront and truly began putting myself into the creative process. It’s beautiful to see how things have blossomed from there, from jewelry I moved to suncatchers, wreaths, and even dreamcatchers. Teaching myself to work with new mediums and working with my hands to create things people either want to wear or hang on their walls is everything to me. Making people happy with my pieces has been very rewarding and I’ve been able to move on to creating memorial dreamcatchers and other pieces by working with individual clients on their vision and specific traits or interests of loved ones that have passed away. So really it feels like I’ve come full circle, and when I make memorial pieces especially I feel I am able to give back and be a part of the healing process for others struggling with loss. Creating has become a catharsis for me to work out pain, or convey happiness I’m feeling in the moment. It’s taught me how to move forward with my life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I typically have bohemian-inspired pieces in my shop and I enjoy using talisman symbols like the Evil Eye which is said to offer protection to those who wear it. I also love incorporating different parts of nature such as butterflies particularly because of their symbolism of rebirth and growth. I make commissioned pieces as well, making clients’ visions come to life from an idea in their mind is very rewarding. I try not to stay too focused on one thing, being able to work on different mediums and learn new processes keeps me humble and helps me to find my strengths. Recently, I have been working on wood-burned projects and have some really unique wood-burned suncatcher pieces in my shop. I take pride in my customer service, as someone who worked for years in customer service it means a great deal for me to make every client’s experience purchasing from me nothing less than amazing. I oftentimes have free gifts that I will give away with purchases, most recently I’ve been giving away aura crystal spheres which are beautiful and I’m sure a lovely surprise when my clients open their packages.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Denver has some great treasures in terms of restaurants and things to do. I personally enjoy visiting the Botanic Gardens when I spend time in Denver, currently, I live about an hour away from the city in Colorado Springs. Just on the other side of the Botanic Gardens is Cheeseman Park which is breathtaking, it offers some beautiful views and well-manicured grounds and fountains to admire. I am a sushi lover and typically make my way to Hapa Sushi when I’m in the city as well, they have a great drink menu and happy hour that’s worth making the time for! As far as Colorado Springs is concerned, Garden of the Gods is a must see when I have guests in town as well as Helen Hunt Falls. I will also take folks to get a cocktail at The Principal’s Office because of its unique location inside of an old schoolhouse, and also to get their fabulous Ramos Gin Fizz.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has been my inspiration in being creative and discovering my artistic abilities. Without his open-mindedness and encouragement, I doubt I would have ever had the confidence to find this part of myself. His name is Steven and he also has a small business which can be found through his Instagram handle: Yetifunk

He has taught me how to not take myself so seriously and pushed me to blossom into my true self. There is no doubt he has been my mentor and my biggest fan throughout my metamorphosis into the artist I am today.
