We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaunt’e Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shaunt’e, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
As a mom of four it has always been important to me to make sure I am very active and present in my childrens lives. No matter what career or business I have had, The number one priority for me has always been flexibility and freedom to create my own schedule. So choosing a business that first, makes me happy and fulfills me personally and second, choosing a business that provided me the freedom to always be there for my them are the most important things that has impacted my children and myself . They may not realize it now, but one day they will look back on all of the sacrifices I made to make sure I was present in their lives from deciding to have my studio at home so I can make sure I was there to get them on and off the bus each day, to being able to travel and give them the experiences I wish I had because I had the ability to work from anywhere. As they grow up, I hope they realize that they can create the lives they want, have the career they want, and know that they can follow their passion while also making a great living off what they are gifted at, ultimately having a fulfilling and happy life!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I’ve always had a love for art since I could remember, but it wasn’t until about 6 years ago when I started to create again. I was a hairstylist for 15 years, up until 2020, when the pandemic hit and made me realize that I wasn’t pursuing my true self and passion of art. So I decide at the beginning of 2021 that I would take the leap of faith in becoming a full time artist and that was the best decision I had ever made! In just 12 short months I have accomplish things I could only dream of, from being featured on the front cover of the art section in the NY Times, painting a Indycar live at the Indy 500 to working with companies including West Elm, Makers Mark, PBS, Vuse, NCAA , The Meijer corporation and so much more.

My work is bold and colorful with clean lines a depicts female representation and empowerment.
Often the main focal point in my work is the eyes and multi dimensional skin tones. We all have a story to tell and many times we can feel the joy and pain when looking into someone’s eyes. I often express myself through my paintings as well. I have a very colorful past and art allows me to express my experiences and tell my story. I’m often told that my art has lifted woman from dark places and gave them the strength and courage to get through difficult times. My goal has always been to uplift and empower and I am happy to say that I am achieving that goal daily!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shout out to my husband. He does so much and works so hard for our family and if it wasn’t for him making my life so much easier, being a hands on dad, doing laundry, cleaning, shopping when I can’t, taking the kids to sports and so much more, I don’t think I would have accomplished as much as I have in such a short period. He is an amazing husband, father, friend and partner! I am one lucky girl!
